Former members of Kneehigh Theatre Company to present new show at the Arena

Posted: 08 Feb 2013 12:26 AM PST

On Thursday 14 February, former members of the internationally-acclaimed Kneehigh Theatre Company will present a new play about an adventurer's travels to ALASKA at the Arena Theatre.

In ALASKA, one man goes in search of adventure, freedom and "a piece of the good life", but soon finds that the reality is no picnic. Plummeting temperatures, technical disasters (and a severe lack of any practical skills whatsoever) soon plunge our hero into a nightmarish world of extreme survival.

Boldly following in the intrepid footsteps of Bear Grylls and Ray Mears, and using film, firelight, shadow and one hell of a soundtrack to transport you into The Unknown, ALASKA is a tragi-comic riot of Pythonesque dottiness guaranteed to leave you spellbound.

ALASKA, created by the newly formed Black Fish, brings together Giles King, Craig Johnson (performers), Simon Harvey (director) and Carl Grose (writer), who have featured in Kneehigh Theatre classics such as The King of Prussia, The Bacchae, Tristan and Yseult and The Red Shoes.

Black Fish is a new theatre company based in Cornwall and that is part of the Kneehigh Theatre family.  Since 1980, Kneehigh has built a reputation for creating vigorous and popular theatre for audiences throughout the UK and beyond, leading to the company being nominated for numerous TMA, Olivier and Tony awards. Black Fish is founded and led by Giles King, an actor, deviser and musician who has been creating and touring theatre for over twenty five years.

ALASKA takes place on Thursday 14 February at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £9 Full Price and £7 Concessions and can be purchased online, at www.arenatheatre.info, in person at the Arena Theatre box office on Wulfruna Street in Wolverhampton, or by calling 01902 321321.

ALASKA is just one of over sixty theatre, comedy, music and spoken word productions coming up at the Arena in the next few months. More information about all of the shows is available online, at: www.arenatheatre.info.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover at The Blue Orange Theatre 7th – 16th March, 7.45pm

Blue Orange Arts presents…
Lady Chatterley's Lover
by D.H. Lawrence
Adapted by Roman de Fruscan
Connie Reid was raised in early 20th century England as a cultured, independent thinker.  She goes on to marry Sir Clifford Chatterley whobecomes increasingly emotionally distant.  Turning to the bed of the low- born game keeper, Mellors, Connie experiences true passion andgenuine intimacy for the first time.  This however begins to lead to a dramatic love triangle and public scandal.
Lady Chatterley's Lover was originally published in 1928.  The book soon became notorious for its story of the physical relationship between a working class man and an upper-class woman, its explicit descriptions of sex, and its use of then unprintable words.  It has since been adapted for radio and for film and television several times. I  n this stunning adaptation Roman de Fruscan brings all the tension and intrigue of the original to the stage allowing the viewer a unique and intense encounter.
