The Goldsmiths' Craftsmanship and Design Awards 2013

Posted: 08 Feb 2013 02:14 AM PST

Manasi Ravatia, 2nd year student on the Jewellery & Object BA (Hons), has submitted the first piece of jewellery from the course to the prestigious Goldsmiths' Awards in London. Manasi, who is also student representative for her year group, finished her design in advance of the course's deadline in order to meet the rigorous entry procedures set by the Goldsmiths Company.

In response to the 2nd year project Seven deadly sins, seven heavenly virtues, Manasi explains: "This brooch has the theme of 'patience'.  It shows the patience the penguin couple have whilst giving birth, protecting their egg from dropping in the snow and passing it to each other while they feed."

The piece is made from an unusual range of materials including sterling silver, layers of laser cut acrylic, porcelain and diamond. Manasi's control over the materials for this piece concluded with setting a diamond into a silver tube measuring just 1 mm in diameter.

Well done Manasi!…and good luck!  We'll keep you posted on how she does!

Scholarship Awards for Art and Design students

Posted: 07 Feb 2013 07:08 AM PST

On Tuesday 5 February, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln, Mary Stuart, presented the Scholarships Awards for the first time in the University's history, accompanied by the University's registrar, Chris Spendlove.

The scholarships were awarded to our new undergraduates who achieved the highest entry qualifications to secure their place at Lincoln. The nominees in this first ever round of awards were chosen from amongst a very strong group of candidates. There are several scholarships, the Vice Chancellor's award, and gold, silver and bronze University of Lincoln Scholarships.

At the ceremony 14 of the University's first year students discovered which of our scholarships they have been awarded and received their first instalment of their scholarship.  Friends and family were also invited to attend this special occasion, and even some of their former Head Teachers were able to attend.

Students from the School of Art and Design were particularly successful, with 5 of the 14 overall students, all studying disciplines from Art and Design.  These included:-

Joseph Lovett from BA (Hons) Creative Advertising
Lauren Sharpe from BA (Hons) Fine Art
Brandon King from BA (Hons) Interactive Design
Connor Walton and Jonathan Hutchinson from BA (Hons) Product Design

Congratulations to them all and we wish them future success with their studies here at Lincoln.
