Gilbert & Sullivan - Abridged- Stables Theatre

Sunday 24 February, 8pm
Tickets £16.50, £17.50

As well as being the forefathers of the modern musical, Gilbert and Sullivan influenced everybody from Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward to Andrew Lloyd Webber. Their influence is discernable in British comedy from Monty Python and Private Eye to Yes, Minister and Blackadder, where the emphasis is on being both disrespectful and yet delightful. Whether you are a Gilbert and Sullivan aficionado, a passing fan or you’re not even sure you know who they are, this show will have you laughing in the aisles as it brings you as much fun as can be packed into ninety hilarious, topsy-turvy minutes!

The Stables have done it again-Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen

Posted: 19 Feb 2013 05:59 AM PST

Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen
Tuesday 26 February, 8pm
Tickets £20

Probably the greatest test of an artist’s success is his durability. For over fifty years Kenny Ball has flown the flag for his particular brand of traditional jazz worldwide. It’s a tribute to his stamina and musical integrity that Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen are as popular today as they were back in 1960 when they had their first chart hit with Samantha. From that time on hit after hit came pouring out until the final tally was fourteen top thirty records – an achievement which has never been equalled by any other jazz artist and which included Midnight in Moscow, in both the UK and USA.

The Immortality of Milton Keynes

Saturday 2 March (1-2pm and 3-4pm)

A free, narrative trail for members of the public, devised and led by Aaron Head. Part psycho-geography, part 'tourist trail', this hour-long walk (beginning and ending at MK Gallery) will combine objective and subjective knowledge, historical notes, and anecdotal musings in an illuminating verbal account of Milton Keynes' long association with Immortality. It builds on the success of a recent, similar narrative trail Head devised for Bedford, called Something About Prose.
