Not Known at this Address (Wed 3rd October)

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 04:10 AM PDT

Tin Box's Not Known at this Address has nearly sold out of tickets! To grab the last ones contact the box office at mac on 0121 446 3232, or visit  http://www.macarts.co.uk/event/tin-box-theatre-not-known-at-this-address.

Obsessed by the secret world of letters, Martin Simons, a post office worker, has collected 1,463 of them. Not Known at This Address invites the audience into Martin's personal sorting office of stories, people and places. Through physical, visual theatre, puppetry and live music, the audience are drawn into the world of Martin's letters as they come to life around him. The piece explores the emotive quality of letters in an age where communication is vast, instant and readily available. It is a story of unrequited love and a man who is lost. As Martin clutches onto his secret, the contents of his letters take him further from his inescapable reality.

Not Known at This Address is a piece inspired by letters. It was performed as part of China Plate's First Bite festival at mac Birmingham in September 2011, and developed at Battersea Arts Centre in January 2012.

Lancaster over Derwent Reservior

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 07:57 AM PDT

Searching for some transparencies recently, I discovered these, which I had totally forgotten about.

It was many years ago (possibly 1993) and was to celebrate the Dambusters, who practiced their low flying technique over the reservoir.

What amazes me is the way in which my scanner and the "Digital Ice Technology" have removed all the nasty dust and scratch marks.

MAT/SISTER TREE – WORKSHOP FOR ACTOR-DANCERS, 6 October

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 04:00 AM PDT

We are working with the Cindy Claes, to develop a short experimental piece, based on 'School for Wives' by Moliere – using 'Dancehall' movement and music!

Cindy Claes is a writer/director/choreographer, who tells stories through dance. She has led dance-theatre projects with artists in Jamaica, and is also a Dancehall lover.

We are holding a one-day workshop on Saturday 6 October at Blue Orange Theatre (10am – 5pm) , to try out some ideas for the project. Come along and find out more!

(Ability to speak patois may be an advantage, but not essential!)

The event is free. Contact us for more details, and to book your place.

You may or may not be required for the whole day. Following the morning session, we will choose some people to work with us more intensively in the afternoon.

We are planning some more workshops with Cindy, later in the month, to develop the project even further  – with a possible 'Open Evening' on 15 November at the Drum, to share 'work in progress.'

Casting Call: Old Joint Stock Theatre

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 03:56 AM PDT

CASTING CALL

Friday 5th October at The Old Joint Stock Theatre

Here at the OJST we are currently casting for our one woman Christmas play, The 12 Dates of Christmas, which will run from 5th-9th, 11th-15th December, directed by Richard Poynton.

About the Play

What happens when Mary sees her fiancĂ© making out with his co-worker on national TV at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? She dumps him and drops her engagement ring into a Salvation Army kettle. She then spends the next year being set up, hooked up, strung up, and fed up as she navigates her life "alone" as a New York actor in her thirties—Sex and the City for real people, with no Mr. Big in sight. A delicious one-woman show about how much the holidays suck after your heart's been crushed.

(For more info: www.the12datesofchristmas.com/about)

We are casting the role of Mary; the actress must have a playing age of between 28-35, be very versatile and perform with convincing accents such as New York and Southern American. Rehearsals will be weekends and evenings to be arranged. The actor will be paid a percentage from the box office takings.

If interested, please send a recent head shot and a short CV to twelvedatesofchristmas@gmail.com.
