Casting actor for rehearsed reading Posted: 21 Feb 2013 01:22 PM PST Hello I'm looking for an actor local to Birmingham to take part in a 3 day workshop for a rehearsed reading of a new play in development taking place at The Edge, Digbeth in mid March. Week of 18th March. Caucasian Male – playing ages 15 – 18 during story Dark hair desirable Brief synopsis and character breakdown attached. Interested parties should contact the director, Jouvan Fucinni via email at jfucinni@gmail.com, with a headshot and CV detailing 'Cover Up casting' in the subject line. Kind regards Jouvan Fucinni Writer & Director for stage and screen Tel 07872 833917 United Kingdom @jouvan_ Synopsis for Cover Up The streets of West London, a knife-crime and a teenage boy charged with murder. Jo, a work-weary criminal lawyer from the Midlands has seen it all before. But this time it's different. Through a series of interviews with young Notting Hill socialite Tamara, Jo finds herself drawn into a social world very different from her own…yet where the parallels with her own story, as a child of the seventies, has a shocking resonance. By Jane Campion Hoye Alistair Male (ages 15 – 18 during story). Londoner, Private school educated. Lives at home with Tam and Mother. Over-protective and almost paternal over younger sister Tamara, which is a new development. Poor connection/communication with father David. Central Theatre Supplies Workshop Day for technicians of all experience levels Posted: 21 Feb 2013 01:15 PM PST Central Theatre Supplies take to the stage again – for one night only!
March 16th 2013 see's the staff of Central Theatre Supplies Birmingham mirror what most of their customers do week in and week out by taking a show to the Solihull Arts Complex Theatre for one day only! Central Theatre Supplies are reprising their highly successful workshop day where new and existing customers will get an opportunity to hear about how to light a performance from scratch, how to use sound to enhance the experience, meet other people facing the same challenges and then later on in the day will hear about the "state of the art" in theatre technologies. The day's event will be supported by several of the manufacturers and distributors that have helped Central Theatre Supplies achieve its reputation as "the company that helps". Among the well-known names due to appear are Zero88, Audio Technica, Allen & Heath, Rosco and ProLight. Representatives will be on hand throughout the day to talk to visitors about their latest products and how they could help solve the problems faced by theatre companies working in smaller venues and teachers working in the multi-purpose spaces often found in schools. The event is aimed at drama teachers from small schools through to academies who face the challenge of presenting performing arts in schools and the technicians that support them. The event will also be of value to members of small theatre companies who present drama in temporarily converted spaces or dedicated theatres – some of the basic technologies are undergoing a step change and the event aims to apprise them of the changes. Central Theatre Supplies hope the day will dispel some of the mythology about performing in such spaces and draw on their 30+ years of experience of helping customers overcome challenges and show that they are the company 'Central for all your needs'.
Venue: Solihull Arts Complex Theatre, Homer Road, Solihull Date: Saturday 16th March 10:00am to 4:30pm Tickets:£5 each (£4 for students) in advance from Central Theatre Supplies – by phone, over the counter or their eShop http://www.centraltheatresupplies.co.uk for more details |

Posted: 21 Feb 2013 01:07 PM PST "Birmingham Fest" is a brand new performing arts festival celebrating the second city's venues & arts scene. Artists and companies from across the UK will showcase their work in an exciting two and a half week programme of events. "Birmingham has fantastic theatres and performance venues. It has the potential to host a festival to rival (and possibly better) other cities. This festival will be great for the city & its arts scene. As well as having such an eclectic programme of performances it will introduce companies and patrons to some of the city's venues that they may not be familiar with". "It is also an excellent opportunity for performers in a pre-Edinburgh slot. Artists and companies may use this festival as a taster before going up (or as a stop-over). They may use it as a try out before taking the leap. Others may use it as a less expensive alternative, especially those in the southern half of the country". Anyone from individuals to full companies can apply: theatre, dance, music, comedy, poetry, workshops or seminars – absolutely anything. APPLICATIONS BEING TAKEN NOW! For further details please visit www.birminghamfest.co.uk The festival will take place between 12-28 July in venues across the city. |

Dressing Room Q and A with Doctors Star Lorna Laidlaw by Rachel Dealtry Posted: 21 Feb 2013 12:51 PM PST Dressing Room Q and A with Doctors Star Lorna Laidlaw aka Mrs TembeIt's a rainy Thursday in Birmingham, but I'm heading down to the BBC Drama Village in Selly Oak to interview Lorna Laidlaw aka Mrs Tembe. It's her birthday tomorrow, so as we grab a coffee and head for her dressing room, colleagues keep popping up to say Happy Birthday; one even came in to sing her a jazz version! She is friendly, striking and a real hoot. Her dressing room is a home from home and you get a real sense of her bold personality. Keep reading the full interview on Rachel Dealtry's blog |
