Three links this morning, all centred on film, animation, media art.

Fancy your short film or animation being seen by over 400,000 people in a month?  That is what is on offer in Mansfield, as the County Council explained in their press release:

Mansfield's new £9 million bus station opens its doors to the public on Easter Sunday (March 31) [and it will have a] giant video wall…The video wall, measuring four metres by 1.8 metres, is positioned above the main information desk in the waiting area and will be used to highlight Council information, advertisements from local businesses – and artwork from community groups.

They estimate five million passenger journeys a year through that station, all of whom would probably like to have their journey brighten by some innovative video or animation.  They say the "screen will handle all types of media files" and of course "any artwork submitted needs to be suitable for showing in a family environment".

The project manager, Paul Horn, is quoted talking about readers of this blog:

Are you the world's best photographer? Do you make short films that can be shown? Or perhaps you're an animator looking to show your creations to a wider audience – we want to hear from you

They plan to have a different theme every month, you may wish to start with month two, unless you satisfy "My home town – Mansfield!".

You may know of the innovative work of The Cutting Room, either from visiting their exhibitions at the playhouse or from our earlier blogpost.  They have announced a open submission process for

talented artists, animators and film makers whose work reflects and explores themes surrounding the Holi Festival, Hinduism, Myth, Ideology, use of pigment, colour and abstraction. Special consideration will be given those that reflect the positivity's of holy festivals, religion and beliefs.

It is free to submit work, more details and their form are on their website. Note "Films must be suitable for a silent public screening"

And if you need inspiration for your video efforts, pop along to the next exhibition at the Surface Gallery from 13 to 23 March (with not very Private View on 12 March, 6-8pm, everyone welcome):

artists Holly James and Anna Salmane will be showing their latest video, photography, drawing and textile pieces in the exhibition Pert&Simple.
