New Pub Theatre Opens in Leicester Posted: 14 Feb 2013 10:09 PM PST Off the Fence Theatre Company has teamed up with popular Leicester pub The Western and programmed a month long festival of performances, launching Upstairs at the Western as Leicester's first fringe pub theatre. Between 12th March and 14th April twenty two different acts including music, dance, storytelling and theatre will entertain audiences. The pub's spare space has been redecorated, a stage built and lights installed to transform it into a new venue, providing locals and arts communities with a new place to enjoy live performance. Producer Verity Bartesch said: "We first tried Upstairs at the Western in October with new play Godot Was Here by Loughborough-born writer Thomas Scully. We knew the pub had great potential and are delighted so many other performers are getting the chance to try it for themselves." Leighton Turner, Operations manager for Steamin Billy added: "We are delighted to be hosting the project, getting involved in the community and making use of the empty space." Off the Fence's first production Market Forces was performed in Leicester Market in December 2011 and has since produced seventeen new plays. The Western is one of eight pubs owned and run by the Steamin Billy Brewing Company. Further information about the festival is available at www.off-the-fence.com/upstairs-at-the-western/ Season Brochure: http://issuu.com/upstairsatthewestern/docs/brochure_-_online |
Posted: 14 Feb 2013 10:07 PM PST INFORMAL GATHERINGS FOR THEATRE/TV/RADIO PROFESSIONALS IN THE MIDLANDS The next Theatre Cuppa will be held on Thursday 28th February at Midlands Arts Centre, from 6pm. If you work in the West Midlands in theatre, film, tv, radio and community arts, do come along – we'd love to see you. We hold Theatre Cuppa every other month or so, and it is a very informal opportunity to meet other professionals in the area, to make connections and catch up with people you may or may not know. It's very relaxed and friendly, children and babies are welcome and if you haven't been before (or even if you have) do grab Ali or Rochi when you arrive. We'll be wearing red carnations so you know who we are! We thought it would be good for this one to coincide with the screening of award winning, Birmingham-made film The Casebook of Eddie Brewer. The film was shot on location in Birmingham, is brimming with a West Midlands cast and crew, and has screened at a number of film festivals including Birmingham's Flatpack Film Festival, Shock and Gore festival, and the Film Festival of Colorado. This screening on 28th Feb is being shown as part of MAC's bi-monthly film event Departure Lounge. A Q&A with the film makers will follow the screening, and will be hosted by Roger Shannon. If you want to see the film following Theatre Cuppa, it starts at 8.30pm and tickets can be bought from MAC box office http://www.macarts.co.uk/event/departure-lounge-the-casebook-of-eddie-brewer So we will be in the Bridges Café Bar at MAC from 6pm, on Thursday 28th February, and we hope to see you there. Looking forward to it…it's been a while! Ali Belbin and Rochi Rampal |
