MK Gallery Project Space - February Exhibition Posted: 05 Feb 2013 04:18 AM PST
Lost & Found presents... Aaron Head: And MK Gallery's Young Person's project, Lost & Found, have commissioned artist Aaron Head to present an exhibition of film and sculpture in MK Gallery Project Space this February. Head’s new work features playful interruptions and interventions into our everyday use of language and the narratives that stem from them. The exhibition includes: a selection of new films edited from a pool of online, user-generated clips; pages of classical texts collaged into animal descriptions; re-cycled found, 35mm slides; and a small collection of missing cat advertisements. Aaron Head was invited to devise this exhibition following an open submission process managed by a curatorial committee from Lost & Found. Head has been working closely with Lost & Found to devise live, public events during the course of the exhibition. This includes The Immortality of Milton Keynes on Saturday 2 March (1-2pm and 3-4pm) a free, narrative trail for members of the public, devised and led by the artist. Part psycho-geography, part 'tourist trail', this hour-long walk (beginning and ending at MK Gallery) will combine objective and subjective knowledge, historical notes, and anecdotal musings in an illuminating verbal account of Milton Keynes’ long association with immortality. It builds on the success of a recent, similar narrative trail Head devised for Bedford, called Something About Prose. Places for The Immortality of Milton Keynes tours can be booked at MK Gallery’s Information Desk or via the gallery website. | ||||||||||||||
Public Art and EU Funding Seminar Posted: 05 Feb 2013 03:18 AM PST Public Art and EU Funding
The day will be divided into a morning session in which artists Kathrin Bohm, Nils Norman and independent curator Michaela Crimmin offer presentations on their work, and an afternoon workshop led by Christoph Jankowski, European Information Manager at Visiting Arts, the UK cultural contact point for the European Commission’s Culture programme. There will also be an opportunity to join a tour of selected public art works in Milton Keynes. Kathrin Bohm will speak from the perspective of her experience of working on pan-European projects and partnerships, such as Rhyzom/Eco-Nomadic-School. Nils Norman works internationally across the disciplines of public art, archictecture and urban planning, generating projects and collaborations with museums and galleries, informed by local politics and ideas on alternative economic, ecological systems and play. Michaela Crimmin is an independent curator and co founder of Culture and Conflict (arts and cultural activity in conflict/post-conflict situations). Christoph Jankowski has considerable knowledge and experience of European Arts and cultural projects and networks, the European Union and European funding.
