Extra Special People: Residency Mania

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 03:36 AM PDT

On Wednesday 10 April from 6.30-8.30pm, Eastside Projects are hosting Residency Mania as part of their Extra Special People programme.

Artists and curators currently based in the West Midlands will share their thoughts on and experiences of being involved in a range of international residencies through a series of quick-fire 15-minute talks. Each contributor has experience of working in a different residency context from rural to urban, international to local. Some have developed bodies of research and others large-scale new work. Some have worked in response to historic collections or environments and others in programmes designed to support collaboration between artists and scientists.

Contributors include artists Faye Claridge, current artist-in-residence at the Sir Benjamin Stone Collection, Birmingham (as part of a residency with the Library of Birmingham funded by Turning Point West Midlands) and Joanne Masding, recipient of the Turning Point West Midlands funded residency at Temple Bar, Dublin, and the Standpoint Futures Residency in January and February 2013 respectively. Laura McDermott, Clore Fellow 2012/13 will discuss the Collide artists' residency programme, CERN, Geneva, where she will be on a three-month placement from June 2013. Design studio An Endless Supply will compare and describe their experience of working with Grizedale Arts in Cumbria and Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridgeshire.

These talks will be followed by questions and informal group discussion. This event will be the perfect time to find out more about how different artists and organisations approach and utilise residencies.

The event is held at Eastside Projects in Birmingham. £4/£2 concessions and free for ESP members.
