After a short Easter break we drum again on Monday 15th April. After receiving a grant from Milton Keynes Community Foundation, we have been able to engage a regular tutor and the group has grown from strength to strenght.

New members always welcome to come and try (mention Arts Gateway MK and get your first session free!)

Our Community group run by volunteers learn and play traditional African Drumming Rhythms. Currently we meet at Christ Church (Hall) Stantonbury Campus, weekly Mondays in school term time only 7:30pm to 9:30pm. We celebrate diverse cultures whilst having FUN and promoting social inclusion. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and ages (16-70+). Our group provides an invigorating, life-enhansing activity with physical, mental and emotional benefits. We are an open and welcoming group accessable to everyone as there is no need of any previous musical knowledge or ability to read music or even text. For several years we met as an informal group of people who shared a passion for African hand drumming. We formalised the group in 2011 in order to increase our membership and employ occasional tutors to improve our skills. In the past we  were a predominatly white female group, our membership has broadened to include young people, men and women from our diverse community. Although an amateur group, we are asked to perform and give workshops at community and charity events.

THE RUBENSTEIN KISS

Telling the story of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg who were executed for espionage in 1953 in New York’s Sing Sing prison, “The Rubenstein Kiss” is a passionate play which will take you on a roller coaster of emotions and sympathies. The play moves between the 1950s and the 1970s and explores the mysterious corridors of power to reveal a family’s anguish  and their quest for answers and atonement.  Were the Rosenbergs the victims of the greatest miscarriage of justice of the twentieth century or traitors who put lives at risk and deserved their fate?
