Dress a Girl Around the World with The Sip & Sew Society

Saturday 25 May / 1-3pm / Free

The Sip and Sew Society, in collaboration with MK Gallery and Dollar Shake, will be hosting an event for parents and children to make a simple dress or pair of shorts to be distributed to difficult parts of the world to children who have very little.  Promising a relaxing afternoon for families, the finished clothes will be sent to children, some of whom may have no parents, and very likely this will be the only pretty dress or smart shorts they will own.

As part of Mini Makers, and inspired by "Story Of Mum" in the Project Space, this fabulous event will see parents and children following very simple patterns to produce items of clothing that they can embellish with somerset puffs, flowers and other motifs.  The dresses are based on a design made from a pillowcase and the technique is very easy to follow.  In the spirit of The Sip and Sew Society, volunteers will on hand to assist those less confident in sewing and all materials will be provided.  If you have your own machine you wish to bring along and use do feel free.  And to top of the event and thank you for all you hard-work enjoy vintage tea and cakes with Dollar Shake.

Build a Balloon with Emma Wilde

Inspired by Story of Mum's new logo Mini Makers encourages you to make your very own hot air balloon. With artist Emma Wilde on hand to help, take up the family challenge to design and make your own balloon and help it fly.

This Saturday's Mini Makers coincides with Story of Mum's Family Make Date. Drop-in as a family and enjoy taking part in a number of fun activities including collage, puppetry and craft. Arrive early to take part or stay on after Mini Makers and share a cup of tea and cake between 3-4pm, with a special chance to see the Story of Mum exhibition. Mums are invited to add something to the touring exhibition and contribute to this growing online community, celebrating and connecting mums of all ages!
