Second-hand wings by Lauren Clemmet

Posted: 29 Feb 2012 11:05 AM PST

The latest exhibition to go up on Project Space 1 (Located between GAP & Hollister in Midsummer Place Shopping centre, Milton Keynes) is

‘Second-hand wings’

 by Lauren Clemmet

9th March - 10th April 2012

Lauren is a painter and photographer.

In the past she has often produced work in which the subject matter has been autobiographical, exploring the perception of time using medical scans, x-rays and data, as well as a body of work based on water and other elemental forces.

Her painting practice has a strong emphasis on process; dripping, pouring and layering paint, manipulating it in other ways as well as with a paintbrush to create the interwoven painted details and forms.

This exhibition marks the beginning of a new series of work, which draws on flora and fauna as inspiration, in particular focusing on creatures with wings, especially birds.

Lauren is interested in the feeling of freedom which flight can evoke, the letting go, leaving everything behind without a care in the world.

Humans can walk, run and swim… but cannot fly without assistance of some kind. It is the apparent ‘lack of gravity’ that makes flight special and even with all the technology, it is something that is just beyond our fingertips.

We hope you enjoy the exhibition.

Best Regards,

Saturday 3 March, 8.45pm

Tickets £10 in advance, £12 on the door

Tir na nOg, the cult duo formed by Leo O'Kelly and Sonny Condell, caused a sensation both on the folk and rock scenes with their music - often described as psychedelic folk - being championed by John Peel, resulting in many Peel sessions in the early 70s.  They toured Britain and Europe with Jethro Tull and Procol Harum, gathering followers of every musical persuasion from their appearances with bands as disparate as Hawkwind, The Who, Fairport Convention and Roxy Music. They have remained a cult band since leaving their record company, Chrysalis, in 1974.

MK Handmade & Vintage Weekend Extravaganza

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 08:54 AM PST

After their popularity last year, this huge event will be returning to thecentre:mk during 2012.  The next one is 3rd & 4th March.

Middleton Hall in front of John Lewis is transformed into a colourful treasure trove of over 100 large indoor market stalls, crammed with handmade and vintage everything.  The rule is gorgeous, affordable one-off.

It's now one of the biggest events of its kind in the country - and it's free entry.

You'll find fashions, accessories, homewares, jewellery, furnishings, china, furniture, gifts and treats, collectables, home cooking, all manner of cool and quirky.

Our talented designer-makers are picked for originality and quality.  By buying direct, customers get a unique creation at the best possible price.

You don't have to be a die-hard vintage fan to love our exciting vintage, retro, antique and upcycled stalls.  With thrift being the new buzzword, our events are nothing if not purse-friendly too.  You can pick up a unique beautifully made piece of clothing or furniture for a fraction of the cost of a high street mass-produced one.  So these stalls are green too - ethical as well as economical, but always stylish.

For those who like a unique style and the thrill of the bargain hunt, it is THE place to shop - but remember to allow yourself a good couple of hours to explore it all...
