Live Music

Trestle Records presents: Morviscous, Orion Arm and Tout

Thursday 29 March / 6.45pm, first performance 7.15pm / Free

Trestle records is a record label dedicated to putting out new instrumental music started by four friends in east London during 2011. Ranging from electronic to classical, pop to musique concrete supporting and distributing all manner of contemporary instrumental music is its principle.

Morviscous

Often described as progressive or experimental rock, the only real constant thread in Morviscous’s music is the attempt to create something that questions where it has come from and where it is going.

Orion Arm

Orion Arm is a two piece spaz-jazz-prog-math band based in Milton Keynes.

Tout

London based guitar three piece. Making highly atmospheric instrumentals the interweaving guitars are accompanied by drums and viola in the creation of cinematic soundscapes. Suggestive of open terrain and movement through far flung landscapes the country-tinged melodies combine folk-country inflection with post-rock structuring.

Three Penny Opera

1931 / 112 mins

Director: Georg Wilhelm Pabst

Selected by current exhibitor Daria Martin

Friday 30 March / 6.30pm / £5 (concessions £3)

Pre-book on 01908 676 900

The sly melodies of composer Kurt Weill and the daring of dramatist Bertolt Brecht come together on-screen under the direction of German auteur G. W. Pabst (Pandora’s Box) in this classic adaptation of the Weimar-era theatrical sensation. Set in the impoverished back alleys of Victorian London, The Threepenny Opera follows underworld antihero Mackie Messer (a.k.a. Mack the Knife) as he tries to woo Polly Peachum and elude the authorities. With its palpable evocation of corruption and dread, set to Weill’s irresistible score, The Threepenny Opera remains a benchmark of early sound cinema.
