April 27-29.

PAINES PLOUGH AT THE SHOP FRONT THEATRE

Posted: 22 Mar 2012 11:29 AM PDT

Award winning Paines Plough playing at The Shop Front Theatre – WASTED 11th April 7.30pm

Theatre Absolute is delighted to announce that WASTED, a new play by Kate Tempest and directed by James Grieve, will be performed by award-winning national company Paines Plough at the Shop Front Theatre in Coventry.
A dazzling display of lyricism and an explosion of sights and sounds with an original score by Kwake Bass, WASTED is an urgent exhilarating coming-of-age story and the first stage play by acclaimed performance poet and rapper Kate Tempest.

Three old friends. One remarkable day. For Ted, Danny and Charlotte, it's time to seize control. Make a difference. Change things. This is it.

A day-glo trip through the parks and raves and cafés of South London, where life is what you make it. The rapid-fire words of Kate Tempest paint a picture of lives less ordinary in an unforgiving world, soundtracked by an exhilarating score.

A play about love, life and losing your mind.

Kate Tempest is the UK's most exciting performance poet and also fronts the hip-hop inspired live three-piece Sound Of Rum. She has performed with John Cooper Clarke, Billy Bragg and Femi Kuti, her poetry has been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and illustrated by Turner Prize winning artist Chris Ofili.

WASTED was commissioned by Paines Plough, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Roundhouse production in association with the National Student Drama Festival and Latitude Festival, where it debuted to huge acclaim last year.

Julia Negus, producer at Theatre Absolute, said: "We're delighted to have such an amazing work performed at the Shop Front Theatre. Paines Plough have been at the forefront of cutting edge theatre in the UK for nearly 40 years, and this is the first play by Kate Tempest, who is a huge talent, so it's a huge honour for us to be able to stage it.

"The Shop Front Theatre is an incredibly intimate venue and really lets the audience get close up to the drama, so it should be a fantastic night. I'd recommend people book early."

WASTED will be at the Shop Front Theatre for one night only on April 11 at 7.30pm. The play lasts approximately 60 minutes and contains very strong language so is suitable for ages 14 and above. Tickets are priced £8 and £6 (concessions) and available from the box office on 0845 680 1926 or oxboffice. Advance booking advised.

For more information about the performance or the Shop Front Theatre please contact Julia Negus, producer at Theatre Absolute on 07799 292957 or Julia@theatreabsolute.co.uk

Launch of £1Million Venture Fund

MeWe 360º is launching a business incubator and venture fund for the arts and creative industries.

Our aim is to identify and develop "Untapped" creative talent from around the country and incubate associated new businesses. Although properly described as a social enterprise, MeWe 360º will be commercially driven. Through our venture arm we will invest up to £200,000 in five promising new projects.

We are currently seeking talented artists, designers, makers and entrepreneurs from across the creative spectrum for development and investment.

MeWe 360º, a new model social enterprise, is the brainchild of entrepreneur and Clore Fellow Kevin Osborne. Kevin previously ran a similar operation in Camden between 2000-2007 called Tribal Tree, out of which emerged two major music acts in the form of N'Dubz and Plan B.
