Theatre Cuppa – Thursday 18th June

INFORMAL GATHERINGS FOR THEATRE/TV/RADIO PROFESSIONALS IN THE MIDLANDS

It's been a while since the last one, so we're more than ready for another cuppa! We've been moving about to different venues too, so we thought we'd go back to our roots and have the next Theatre Cuppa at The Green Room (formally The Coffee Room), Hurst Street, Birmingham (opposite Birmingham Hippodrome). We'll be there on Tuesday 18th June from6pm. We're really looking forward to finding out what everyone's been up to.

So if you work in the West Midlands in theatre, film, tv, radio and community arts, do come along – we'd love to see you. It is a very informal opportunity to meet other professionals in the area, to make connections and catch up with people you may or may not know. It's very relaxed and friendly, children and babies are welcome and if you haven't been before (or even if you have) do grab Ali or Rochi when you arrive. We'll be wearing carnations so you know who we are!

Please spread the word and if you're free on the 18th, do pop in for a drink and a chat.

Escalator Plays Launch 2013

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 03:32 AM PDT

We are delighted to announce that applications are open NOW for emerging writers to join our prestigious Escalator Programme 2013/14 offering the chance to have your work performed at the HighTide Festival 2014, described by The Telegraph as the "little gem of the artistic calendar in Britain".

Escalator Plays is part of a wider Escalator Talent Development initiative that is supported by Arts Council England East. This particular strand is designed to support early career playwrights from the East of England, and those wanting to work in the region to develop their writing and showcase their plays at partner organisations, such as Eastern Angles, New Wolsey Ipswich, and Mercury Theatre Colchester.

The first year of our Escalator Plays scheme has been a phenomenal success. Last December, our current 2012/13 Escalator writers had their work showcased in front of their peers and our artistic team at HighTide's 2012 Christmas Readings at Shoreditch Town Hall. Following mentoring from our Artistic Director Steven Atkinson, the Escalator writers had a rehearsed reading of a twenty minute excerpt of their plays at this year's Festival. These readings, directed by the Gate Theatre's Associate Director Ellen McDougall, offered the writers the opportunity to see their work performed by professional actors in front of a packed audience in Halesworth.

Check out our current Escalator Playwrights discussing their experience at this year's HighTide Festival, half of whom this month have full productions of their work being staged in the Eastern region or London. To apply to join our Escalator Programme and to find out more click here.

Tell Me About Your Ex – Open Call

Tell Me About Your Ex – Open Call

You might have seen posters in and around the Old Joint Stock for Tell Me About Your Ex, running at the theatre 3rd-7th September. Problem is, we're still short one actor!

Tell Me About Your Ex is looking for a male actor with a playing age between 30-40 years, with skills in improvisation and physicality.

The performances will be w/c 3rd September 2013 and rehearsals will be predominantly daytime in the final two weeks of August.

Performers will be paid a box office split.

The Show:

Tell Me About Your Ex is an exciting, brand new theatrical experience where the audience is the author! Funny, scary, sad and uplifting, this is a play for everyone who has been in love – or still is. Tell Me About Your Ex is a new play from the Old Joint Stock Theatre and started out as a scratch performance as part of Theatre Exchange earlier this year. For the past few months, the Birmingham public have been sending us tales from their relationships, and in September we will be presenting a show like no other.

The best submissions have come together to form our play, and all the stories we've received will be mounted in an exhibition in the theatre foyer of the Old Joint Stock during the production. What's more, each night's audience will be invited to fill in their own cards. These new stories will feed into the show during the production week, so hopefully it will be a different show every night!

To register your interest, please contact oldjointstocktheatre@fullers.co.uk by June 8th. Auditions will be held on  June 11th from 7pm.
