Pop-up theatre and gallery

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 09:42 AM PDT

Lost Shoes

A half glanced child's sandal in the hedge. Men's dress shoes neatly paired behind an industrial estate. A broken ballet pump in the gutter. Deliberately placed or abandoned in haste – how did they get there? We've all seen them, perhaps out of the corner of our eyes, but what are their stories?

Lost Shoes is an art and new-writing project which will take place in London in September 2013. We are inviting artists to decorate, rework or repurpose a shoe and writers to write a short new play inspired by an image taken from the twitter feed @abandonedshoes. The work will be showcased in a pop-up theatre and gallery as part of the London Design Festival 2013.

Play submissions should be no longer than 15 minutes in length and able to be performed with minimal set, prop and costumes. Please complete a Submission Form and send with your script to info@riffraffproductions.co.uk by Friday 19th July 2013.

We are also interested in hearing from directors and actors who would like to work with us to bring the selected pieces to the stage. Please get in touch and tell us a little bit about yourself.

Theatre in company the Play House is moving from its home of many years at Percy Shurmer Academy. Whilst we're very sad to leave our friends at the school, we're very excited to be moving in with our partners, the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

The Play House is continuing to deliver its Language Alive! primary touring programmes and other projects such as issue based work and INSET. We'll also be working with the Rep on some new ventures including performances for children at the theatre, enabling our popular schools work to be seen by a wider audience.

Our programme for 2013/4 is booking now, and includes a full range of tours covering Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. New for the autumn term is The Little Match Girl which relocates Hans Christian Andersen's popular tale to 19th century Birmingham and links with the Rep's production of A Christmas Carol.
