The A-Z of Surviving as an Artist

3 July 2013 / 6-8pm / Free but booking required

To kick start our Showcase 2013 student Project Space exhibitions this year, MK Gallery has invited Zeitgeist Art Projects to present an event especially designed for new artists and recent graduates.

Literally an A-Z of how to survive as an artist after leaving art school: Tilley & Davis discuss everything from websites, galleries, exhibitions, curators, collectors, teaching, tweeting, networking, funding, marketing, mailing lists, portfolio careers and balancing it all! The talk is packed with information pertinent to all artists/creatives at any stage, including students, ambitious new graduates and those returning after a break. Designed to give practitioners a new burst of energy or a head start in understanding how to create networks, raise profiles and get their work seen.

The A-Z talk was commissioned by Southampton Solent University, and has toured to The Whitstable Biennale, De La Warr Pavillion Bexhill, firstsite Colchester, Matt Roberts Arts London, St Helens HE College Merseyside and a range of other locations.

Rosalind Davis and Annabel Tilley founded Zeitgeist Arts Projects in 2012 to support ambitious artists with practical ways to sustain their practice. The annual ZAP Show & Tell programme and their innovative talk: The A-Z of Surviving as an Artist are designed to encourage artists to learn from other artists, network, engage and raise their profiles. Tilley and Davis also curate exhibitions of outstanding new and established artists, like Collectible, an exhibition of 68 new, promising and established artists, the ZAP Open Exhibition 2012, and this year's much anticipated: Discernible.

In the last installment of the“Dollars” trilogy of Sergio Leonedirected “spaghetti westerns,”Clint Eastwood reprises the roleof a taciturn, enigmatic loner. Here he searches for a cache of stolen gold against rivals the Bad(Lee Van Cleef), a bounty hunter, and the Ugly (Eli Wallach), aMexican bandit. Though dubbed“the Good,” Eastwood’s character is not much better than hisopponents - he is just smarter and shoots faster.
