Sherwood Art Week and a quick reminder

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 12:47 PM PDT

Friends of mine moved to the country a few years ago and, on their first visit back to Nottingham, mentioned how much they loved the sense of community where they lived now. Remarks like these do get up my nose; community is in the city if you know where to look for it. A great example is Sherwood Art Week which is in its sixth year and still going strong. Organised by volunteers with the help of local businesses, it's a real celebration of the wealth of creative talent this small suburb has to offer and it kicks off this weekend with the Secret Garden Craft Fair. A load of art and craft will be out on display, mostly for free so get yourselves on the green bus line and get down there!

Tomorrow's craft fair will feature a range of designer makers as well as refreshments and music from local bands – all at the United Reformed Church on Edwards Lane. Last year I managed to pick up several Christmas presents (I was feeling pretty organised at the time, who can say if that'll happen this year…) and treat myself to a lovely bracelet and cupcake as well.

Throughout the week there will be a number of workshops and displays taking place but if you want to take part in any workshops you really should book in advance! You know, to avoid disappointment and all that. As I type, there were still places available on:

Crafty Glass on Sat (22nd) afternoon;
Mosaics on Mon and Wed afternoons;
Jewellery on Tuesday evening;
Felt-making on Wednesday morning;
Have a go with Clay on Wednesday evening;
Working with Angels on Thursday afternoon
Working with Crystals on Friday afternoon;
Shamballa Knotting on Thursday evening;
Collage and Rubber Stamping on Fri evening;
Portraits in Watercolours and vegetable inks on Saturday (29th) morning;
Pilates on Sat afternoon;
Life Drawing on Sunday (30th) morning and
Knitting on Sunday afternoon.

but this could easily have changed by now so please call  07864 028 147 for more details.

It's not just for crafters and lovers of cupcakes however, there will also be The Back Garden Project and the Transition Sherwood Food Garden for those of you with greener fingers.

For more details of the artists on display and events throughout the week have a look at the website or their Facebook page
