Johanna Love and Michael Evans

Thursday 16 May / 6.30pm

This is the first public showing of recent video work by Dr Johanna Love and Dr Michael Evans who are both senior lecturers in fine art at the University of Northampton.

Jo Love has previously worked with photography and digital print while Michael Evans has worked predominately within painting and to a lesser extent with digital photography. Both artists have previously worked only with the still image and this represents their first movement beyond this into the field of time based media. However, the dialogue between earlier works and their current video pieces remains vital. Both artists work with a reduced palette of greys and explore the relative notions of emptiness within painting, print, photography and video. This screening is intended to explore the dialogue between still and moving image which both artists are currently exploring and is intended as a ‘work in progress’ showing with questions more than welcome after the screening of the work.

In conjunction with North Bucks Young Surrealists Association. Man Ray’s Emak Bakia is an extraordinary Dadaist collection of images seemingly unconnected. It is subtitled as a cinepoeme. Man Ray described the films he made in the 1920s as “inventions of light forms and movements”. The title of his 1926 film Emak Bakia comes from an old Basque expression that means “don’t bother me."

Tamzen Moulding: TessaraeA work in progress performance

Thursday 6 June / 6.30pm / Free

An evening of physical performance and stunning acrobatics. In Tessarae four performers are thrown, dive and are caught in powerful feats of strength and poise. Passing constantly through acrobatic moves, each person interlocks with the next in a constantly shifting puzzle.

Tamzen MouldingTamzen Moulding is a professional circus performer and dancer.  She began as a gymnast, competing at International level, then did a degree at London Contemporary Dance School before moving into circus. Using all these skills she now choreographs work that crosses boundaries between circus/acrobatics and dance.
