Spanish artist and designer Marta Boan is currently Artist in Residence also in the School of Artand Design, specifically within BA (Hons) Jewellery and Object, thanks to the AA2A scheme and is working on her Useful project: jewels with an added function or functional portable objects to put on as jewellery. She is searching for a clear and basic aesthetic as well as maximum simplicity to formalize her pieces. Marta is working on making something useful for daily life that is both a beautiful decorative jewel to wear as well as a tool that can be used.

The enormous benefit that having a resident professional in our Jewellery workshops has been evident since Marta first joined us. Students are able to witness first hand how live projects develop to a deadline, how to manage external suppliers and, importantly, they seamlessly absorb specialist knowledge from her just by sharing our many workshops.

Marta has wasted no time in accessing most of the Art and Design departments to complete her Useful project, mainly Fine Art and Fashion but she has also been known to knock on the door of the School of Science for help. It has been immeasurably rewarding to have Marta working amongst the Jewellery & Object team.
"Somehow I try to work with what has always been there, to take it and make it in a different way. My way." (Marta Boan)

You can see Marta's work, as well as those by the above mentioned artists at the Sam Scorer Gallery, Drury Lane, Lincoln, LN1 3BNfrom 29 May to 8 June, open daily 10 am - 4 pm.
