Arts Gateway - Local Giving Fund - Match Funding!

Posted: 16 May 2012 02:59 AM PDT

We are constantly looking at ways of funding and supporting the arts and creative people in MK and in order to do this we need to generate more funding ourselves.

Very small donations can make a huge difference to individuals, arts groups, organisations for the creative growth and development in the area.

MK Community Foundation are match funding any donation made through Local Giving at the moment ......yes that's £1 for £1!!

New projects are constantly being added! So keep checking back!

So dear arts supporters and people keen to see the arts thriving in our area, visit our page and see how you could make a difference:

www.localgiving.com/artsgatewaymk - The match funding pot of money does tend to deplete pretty quickly!! We are very grateful and optimistic ....thank you!

Selected by Olivia Plender

Friday 1 June / 6.30pm / £5 (concessions £3)

Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory, apparently playing themselves, share their lives over the course of an evening meal at a restaurant. Gregory, a theatre director from New York, is the more talkative of the pair. He relates to Shawn his tales of dropping out, traveling around the world, and experiencing the variety of ways people live, such as a monk who could balance his entire weight on his fingertips. Shawn listens avidly, but questions the value of Gregory's seeming abandonment of the pragmatic aspects of life. Written by Rick Gregory

Performers raising the bar with Arts Gateway Masterclasses

Posted: 15 May 2012 07:02 AM PDT

People involved in the theatre and live performances across Milton Keynes have come together to boost the city's creativity. At a meeting on January 28th at the Open University, practitioners brainstormed a whole range of ideas including developing the theatre community of Milton Keynes through networking and mutual support and getting reviews of our shows in the local press. At the top of the list was a programme of masterclasses in some of the skills that lie behind the best and most exciting performances and high quality productions that we want in Milton Keynes.

The masterclasses organised by Arts Gateway's specialist Drama Panel will start in the autumn and will cover a wide range of skills including Stage Combat, Text from Page to Stage, Lighting a Production and Directing for the Theatre. Arts Gateway will be seeking funding to subsidise this programme and a small charge will be made to those who can afford it. As we believe in access to the arts for everyone, those who cannot afford it will be asked to pay through volunteering their time across other arts activities in Milton Keynes.

"These masterclasses will be an excellent opportunity to develop essential skills, ensuring we make the best theatre and live performances we can. Milton Keynes will benefit from the quality of future performances, productions and in turn, increase in those interested in volunteering in the arts" said Caz Tricks chair of Arts Gateway's drama panel.

For more details about how to get involved please email caz.tricks@artsgatewaymk.org.uk or telephone 01908 241122.

UK Climate Control at the Community Arts Resources Centre

UK Climate Control at the Community Arts Resources Centre

MK's Aladdin's Cave of creative kit is buzzing with excitement after a successful grant award from Sports Relief.

Not many people know about the collection of props, costumes, lighting, audio and equipment, tucked away on an industrial estate in the city.  Collected over the last decade and more, it is hired out to support artistic, commercial  and non-commercial events across the city.  Not a week goes by without a production, performance or event using the collection and one of the best sellers is the range of marquees available for people needing to protect outside equipment or people from the vagaries of the British climate.  Thanks to the latest grant, The Community Arts Resources Centre will be renewing a much hired marquee by replacing its ageing canopy.

"This Sport Relief award is really very welcome indeed, and our competitive hire rates allow community organisations in our most disadvantaged neighbourhoods to hold events which might otherwise be outside their budget.  As a result more places and more people will be able to join in the celebrations and cultural activity that will be so important in 2012", said Anthony Lucas-Smith, chair of the Community Arts Resource Centre, subsidiary of Arts Gateway MK.

For more details please telephone 01908 241122 or email info@artsgatewaymk.org.uk .  For hire enquiries complete the form at www.carcmk.org.uk

From garb to Garbo, CARC makes it happen

The city's Aladdin's Cave of creative kit is spreading the word about its extraordinary collection of over 2000 costumes and accessories available for local hire. The Community Arts Resources Centre, hidden away on an industrial estate, is reviewing how it holds and promotes its costume offer, and how it can broaden the range of groups and individuals using it.

"Anyone thinking of putting on a play, musical or other dramatic event should come and see the range we have now.  Amongst our extensive collection we have 18th century (Empire line), Victorian, 1930s chic, 60s, 70s and 80s, exotic dresses and robes, even a few specialised items, (for example Alice in Wonderland), plus period hats, shoes, accessories and a few props." said Anthony Lucas-Smith, Chair of The Community Arts Resources Centre.

The Community Arts Resources Centre is calling for volunteers to carry out market and business development, improve the web presence (see www.carcmk.org.uk) and promote the hire of costumes.
