Arts, Crafts & Plenty of Pimms – Getting ready for the long weekend

Posted: 27 May 2012 04:43 AM PDT

Union JackNext weekend marks the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and we've been given an extra bank holiday to celebrate. If you're looking for something to do (other than hopefully enjoying the sunshine!), then Nottingham is delivering in spades. We've already mentioned the Dot-to-Dot Festival, taking place on Sunday 3rd, but there are plenty of other things going on too, and more Pimms and lemonade than you can shake a stick at…

Craft in the City Art & Craft Fair
St Mary's Church, Lacemarket – Saturday 2nd June 10.30am-5pm

Celebrating historic & contemporary crafts, Craft in the City showcases some of Nottingham's finest artists and designers. You'll find jewellery, ceramics, paper craft, knitwear, textile art, and lots more. There will also be food stalls and a BBQ (Jubilee Burgers from award-winning Nottingham butcher A. Wright), and Pimms and Real Ales will be available if you're looking for liquid refreshment.
Throughout the day there will be demonstrations of everything from sock making to calligraphy, alongside live music and storytelling.

Entry is free to all. Follow on Twitter for updates @Craft_InTheCity

Jubilee Vintage Weekender
Hopkinson Gallery

Spanning 3 days over the Jubilee Weekend, the Hopkinson Gallery's Vintage Weekender kicks off with a "vintage tea party with a twist" on Friday evening (7-11pm). Tea-infused cocktails are the order of the day, and there'll be live music from Tim Boynton and DJ Ed-It.

Then on Saturday (10am-4pm) and Sunday (11am-5pm) pop along to Hopkinson for pop-up vintage and craft stalls galore. Got any antiques lying around? See what they're worth with the antiques valuation service. Or try your luck at the tombola.

And yes, there's plenty of Pimms and Lemonade. It's being served all day.

Wheee! Festival
Lakeside Arts Centre – June 2-10

Something for the kids this one.Kicking off on the Jubilee Weekend, the Wheee! Festival brings together performances by groups from around the world that children from 18months+ are sure to love. 5 minute theatre, puppetry, music and interactive performances will make this international festival a lot of fun (I suspect not just for the kids!). Although the festival continues throughout the following week, much of the action takes place over the Jubilee Weekend, including the interactive experience Battle of the Beetlebuns!

And on that note, I'm off to sit outside in the sunshine. I might even have a glass of Pimms… Enjoy the long weekend Nottingham!
