| Posted: 06 May 2012 03:33 AM PDT  A collection of Birmingham's well known artists and musicians have been invited to showcase their talent at Brazil's world famous Espirito Mundo Festival - a manifestation of art, music and cultural celebration, running throughout May. Espirito Mundo (Spirit World) based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a festival that celebrates culture, art, and music. The festival is celebrating it's fourth birthday this year and will see over 25,000 festival goers travel to the site to celebrate Brazilian culture. The Birmingham performers, who include a roster of Birmingham's most celebrated names, have been handpicked and will be heading out to Brazil to fly the flag for the UK's counterpart version of Espirito Mundo, Espirito Brum, which takes place September 11th-16th 2012 in the heart of Birmingham's creative quarter, Digbeth. Espirito Brum is currently in its second year and is a recognition of cultural exchange between Birmingham and Brazil. It provides artists and musicians a meeting point to create, share and explore talent alongside artists from a far removed cultural context. To kick-start this years Brazilian Festival the organisers of Espirito Mundo have invited 18 of this years Espirito Brum performers over to Brazil to perform at the main festival. Performers include three-time winner of the DMC DJ Championships, DJ Switch, who receives regular airplay on BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio 1, and Asian Network. Having worked with the likes of Professor Green, Public Enemy and Magnetic Man, DJ Switch is now looking forward to representing Birmingham in the Brazilian scene. Alongside DJ Switch are friends and collaborators Munchbreak, a musically talented ensemble made up by Mr Muz, DJ Feva, Bongo Damo, and Spike Barker from the Alternative Dubstep Orchestra. They will also be joined by Glenn Anderson, a fine artist from Birmingham who boast an impressive catalogue, having worked with the likes of: Orange, Virgin, Birmingham Opera Company, Xbox360, and Cirque Du Soleil. His work has also recently been commissioned around Birmingham as he was selected for the JCDecaux 48 sheet commission, and is now looking forward to placing his art around Brazil. Also joining the trip are: Chromatouch AKA Leon Trimble, a VJ and AV (Video Jockey and Audio Visual) performer who regularly DJ's at International festival Global Gathering Mendi Singh a classically trained tabla player who has performed for the Chilean president and collaborated with Paul McCartney, Tessa Burwood and Soesmix Edam of Professional Incredible (organisers of Espirito Brum), the inspiring cheapside (Birmingham) Friction Arts, Manchester folk-hop combo Honeyfeet, and Birmingham photographer Dan Burwood. | Participant Circus Opportunity : Birmingham Posted: 17 May 2012 12:57 AM PDT Call Out for If Only I Could… Take part in an exciting new outdoor circus project! If Only I Could… is a brand new outdoor circus performance being developed in Birmingham. We are seeking 5 participants to take part in development and performances. Participants must be based in the West Midlands, be available for the dates listed below and aged between 16 – 30. No circus experience is necessary, but a level of physical fitness and awareness of your own body is an advantage. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills in circus and share them with audiences in the region at Birmingham Hippodrome's Six Summer Saturdays and Sandwell Arts Festival. We will train and support you to develop suitable skills. You will be part of our creative team, working to develop an exciting new outdoor performance, led by professional circus and physical theatre artists. We will cover participant travel expenses, and provide you with lunches on full day rehearsal and performance days. We will be holding an open recruitment day in Birmingham on Saturday 16 June, which will be a great chance to find out if this is the right project for you. Selection will be based on participant's ability to commit to the project dates and their passion and interest in the project. Please note places are limited to 5. If Only I Could will be a visually striking piece of circus theatre with a strong but simple narrative of self-discovery, played out through circus acts. Just as the circus performer seemingly achieves the impossible, a young girl embarks on a journey, encountering the weird and wonderful, which equips her with everything she needs to be literally flying high! The project is led by artists Kim Charnock & Joe Fearn, and produced by Pippa Frith & Thomas Wildish. Participants must be available for all of the dates during the project.
