Cuttlefish Casting
Date
: Saturday 17th March 2012
Time: 10 am - 4 pm
Artist: Clare Layton
Cost: £45
Cuttlefish casting is a way of casting metal (silver) with using centrifugal force. Items, for example a button, are impressed into the cuttlefish to form a mould. Then moulten silver is poured into the mould to take the shape. Quite a lot of detail can be obtained by this ancient method of casting. The cuttlefish can also be carved into directly. Anglo Saxons would have used this process to make rings for royalty. The cost of silver is not included in the workshop price.
