Articulation: Artists' Talks in Northampton Posted: 20 Feb 2012 06:29 AM PST The School of The Arts is delighted to announce the first in what is intended to become a regular programme of public lectures at Avenue Campus by internationally renowned figures in the art world. This first series, entitled 'Articulation', will take place in March and includes talks by land artist and sculptor Chris Drury, photo artist John Hilliard and painter Ian McKeever. The talks have been organised by John Harper as part of an ongoing programme to promote debate on the issues, actions and attitudes employed in the diversity of contemporary fine art practice. Chris Drury, John Hilliard and Ian McKeever will be talking about their own work in the context of issues related to the public understanding of contemporary art. What is it? How do we relate to it? And why should we try to understand it? Each talk will be followed by a question and answer session and last for 90 minutes. Chris Drury - Tuesday 6 March 6.30pm-8pm John Hilliard - Tuesday 13 March 6.30pm-8pm Ian McKeever - Tuesday 20 March 6.30pm-8pm The talks will take place in the main hall at Avenue Campus from 6.30pm-8pm and are open to anyone. Tickets cost £3 / £2.50 concessions, or free to University of Northampton students - to reserve a ticket, please contact gallery@northampton.ac.uk or telephone 01604 893046. |

The Literature Panel is looking for new (voluntary) members Posted: 20 Feb 2012 03:46 AM PST The Literature Panel is looking for new (voluntary) members. We'd consider anyone who's active and/or interested in Literature - in its very widest sense - and lives or works in the MK area. You don't have to be a writer of any kind, though quite a few of us are. The main task of Panel members is to help assess the Literature applications that come in two or three times a year. One or two Panel members will usually go to meet the applicant(s). Sometimes the whole Panel might meet together to discuss the application, or we'll exchange views through email. We then make a recommendation to the executive. The other Panel tasks can be summed up as being willing to provide advice and contacts, and to suggest initiatives and collaborations to benefit Literature in MK. (Alternatively, if you're not the sort of person who likes to formally join things, you can just offer to be available informally: it's really useful to have a few people with a specialism (e.g. in a particular genre or practice) whom we can call on for advice if we get an application or request in that area.) There's no pay or perks or status, but it's quite convivial if you just want to do something worthwhile and not too ardous for the local literary community, and are happy to mix with other literary types. If you're interested, contact Guy on g.w.russell@phonecoop.coop or 01908 315609. |
