MARCH 2012

Friday 9 March - 2-5pm - Symposium: Talking Objects
(Cope Auditorium)

Saturday 10 March, 1–5pm
(Martin Hall)

A day of live performance, installations and film exploring the notion of the performing object

Artists — Heather & Ivan Morison, Aura Satz, Clare Stephenson, Joanne Tatham & Tom O'Sullivan

Radar presents two days of performances, films and critical debate that consider the communicative potential of the object.  Object theatre has commonly been associated with puppetry and over the two days this understanding will be challenged, expanded and redefined through newly commissioned works by internationally renowned artists Heather & Ivan Morison, Aura Satz, Clare Stephenson, and Joanne Tatham & Tom O'Sullivan.

From giant cut-out figures and hidden voices, to fire and mud puppets, these new performance-installations spotlight the diverse forms of the object theatre genre, drawing on traditional puppetry techniques, narrative sculpture and the autonomous machine to question the body/object role in theatre and art, often exaggerating the absence of the human to great effect.

Alongside the commissioned works there will be a series of film screenings including Pierre Huyghe's Two Minutes Out of Time, Christian Jankowski's Puppet Conference and Laurie Simmons' The Music of Regret, along with a puppet making workshop for children and their families.

On the Friday preceding the day of performance/installation there will be a symposium, Talking Objects which brings together practitioners and academics from the object theatre field to present current research and debate on the diverse roles, dynamics and capacities of the object.  Speakers include Richard Allen, Sean Myatt, Aura Satz, Nenagh Watson and Dan Watt.

On Saturday 10 March there will be buses onto campus, picking up from Nottingham (outside Nottingham Contemporary, Weekday Cross) and Leicester (outside LCB Depot, Rutland Street) at 12.15pm, returning at 4.30pm.  There will be a small charge for the buses and booking is essential.  To book your space on the bus: www.bus.eventbrite.co.uk

Both events are FREE. For more information about the events, buses, and booking information visit www.arts.lboro.ac.uk/radar
