Gregory Sporton is the new Professor of Digital Creativity at the School of Art, BIAD. As Director of the Visualisation Research Unit, he has been involved with the development of new technologies and their application in the Visual and Performing Arts for some years and has long-standing creative links with the Conservatoire.

The evening includes his Inaugural Professorial Lecture, 'The End of Things', introduced by Fred Inglis, Emeritus Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Warwick. Also in the programme is some of Professor Sporton's choreography and a performance by the VRU that includes live electronics and a demonstration of the body-based sound and visuals generating system 'MotivePro', developed by Sporton and Green especially for blurring the boundaries between dance, painting and music-making

ACE Youth is the youth dance company of ACE dance and music. Formed in 1998, they're a group of talented young people from in and around Birmingham, between 11 and 21 years old. Trained under the artistic eye of Gail Parmel, ACE Youth promotes confidence and understanding in young artists and communities through the appreciation of African and Caribbean culture, dance and music.

ACE Youth can demonstrate a growing reputation for exciting, physical, challenging work. In 2011 five more members of ACE Youth successfully auditioned for professional dance training; 95% of ACE Youth members who audition now go on to gain a place to train professionally. Furthermore, ACE Youth member Iona Waite has just been awarded the BBC performing arts fund Dance Fellowship 2011. ACE is committed to developing young dancers and giving opportunities to young people and this award offers best practice for bridging the gap between youth dance and professional dance.
