Four weeks today until the launch of the first ever Worcestershire Literary Festival

Posted: 17 May 2011 06:51 AM PDT

92 Events … 10 Days … 36 Venues

City and County to come alive in June with an exciting array of literary and poetic events, talks, workshops and outdoor activities at Worcestershire's first ever Literary Festival

Residents and visitors to the City and County will be treated to numerous events during the festival in June including book signings at Waterstone's in Worcester by Nicci French, Anita Sharma-James, Nick Berry, Steven Follows and more; an appearance by Victoria Connelly, author of "A Weekend With Mr Darcy"; the appointment of the County's first ever adult Poet Laureate; Roy McFarlane, Birmingham's current Poet Laureate; Attila The Stockbroker at Evesham Arts Centre; John Cooper Clarke at Malvern Youth Centre; Rory Bremner at The Artrix, Bromsgrove; Poetry, Performance and Pizazz at Bewdley; Brewers' Troupe presents SNUG at Kidderminster, and much more.

On Saturday 18th June shoppers and passers-by will be treated to some outdoor poetry and spoken word readings in Bell Square, The Crowngate, Worcester, and there will be a special appearance by Amy Thompson from Channel 5's "Milkshake", who will be reading stories for children at 11.00am that day. There will be more outdoor spoken word events outside the Guildhall in Worcester and on the South Quay on Saturday 25th June.

The Worcestershire Literary Festival is in its inaugural year, and will be staged between June 17th to 27th 2011. Altogether, 92 separate events are being held across the 10 days of the festival in 36 venues and the festival has been organised and put together entirely by volunteers. The programme is now complete and is available online on www.worcslitfest.com and as a printed copy in various outlets throughout Worcester and Worcestershire.

The Festival has even attracted international interest from the Williamstown Literary Festival in Melbourne, Australia, and the President and Founder of the Festival Angela Altair will be coming over to the UK in June to specifically attend the launch of the Festival and some of the preceding events.

Martin Driscoll, Festival Organiser said: "From the moment the idea of a literary festival was proposed last year the support for the event from local people and organisations has been incredible. It hasn't been possible to include all the events and ideas that have been submitted due to logistics, time and money but we have put together a very exciting programme of events for our first festival encompassing as many different genres of writing and literature as we could fit in, and we will be looking at everything we couldn't include this year for future events and for next year's Festival. We will be staging events not just throughout the Festival but throughout the year leading up to the second Worcestershire Literary Festival in 2012."

For any enquires about the Worcestershire Literary Festival please contact Ruth Inglis in the Festival Office via ruth@worcslitfest.com or call the Festival Office on 0845 652 0621.
