Call for Papers & Presentations - Cinesonika 2 Posted: 03 Oct 2011 12:40 PM PDT Call for Papers & Conference Presentations: CINESONIKA 2 – The Second International Conference & Festival of Sound Design Venue: Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia Conference Dates: Feb. 17th – 19th, 2012 We are seeking multi-disciplinary contributions on sound in relation to the moving image. Media thinkers, film scholars, art historians, performance theorists, composers, filmmakers, sound practitioners, multimedia semioticians, philosophers of perception - we invite these and others to submit proposals for 20 minute panel presentations. All accepted presentations will be considered for inclusion in the CINESONIKA issue of The Soundtrack academic journal if expanded into papers and submitted for peer review (1000-3000 words for short articles, 5000-6000 words for long papers). In addition to the general call, we are also interested in research related to the genres of horror and science fiction as part of a themed section of the conference. The Sustainability Review: Call for Submissions Posted: 02 Oct 2011 07:42 PM PDT Sustainable progress, one art piece at a time We seek submissions that address sustainability issues and also function as a call to action, meshing artistry with advocacy. Potential pieces could feature novel technology, innovative re-use, or solutions for specific human/environmental interactions. We embrace work that employs a multi-faceted approach, especially that which makes use of emerging media (though traditional media is also welcomed). This includes (but is not limited to) creative and innovative design, conceptual cartography, and statistical art Please include with your submission a 300 to 450 word statement describing your work. This should address the guidelines set above, introducing your work to TSR readers in a way that compliments the mission of the publication. For established works, the statement should portray the submitted piece in a manner that is unique to TSR. Additionally, please provide a concise artist statement to accompany your submission. Submissions for the Fall issue will be accepted until October 25, 2011 and will be published starting November 7, 2011. Calling all young budding poets! Posted: 03 Oct 2011 09:40 AM PDT Do you know any budding young poets who might like to take part in Saturday's Poetry Slam (at the Library Theatre, Chamberlain Square, Birmingham B3 3HQ)? This is part of the Birmingham Book Festival, which starts on National Poetry Day, Thursday 6th October. The young writers will have chance to work with former Young Birmingham Poet Laureate Matt Windle, along with other young slam poets Kesha Campbell and Becki Head. These three dynamic young poets will guide the others in creating new poems or working on existing ones on the National Poetry Day 2011 theme of 'Games' from 1-4pm, ready for a public performance from 4-5pm.
It is completely free to take part in and to attend, and there will be a prize for the eventual Slam winner. No poetry experience needed! Open to anyone aged 12-18.
