The Cry of the Homeless CD

Posted: 13 Nov 2012 03:52 AM PST

PRESS RELEASE                                    8th NOVEMBER 2012

The Cry of the Homeless CD is a project of the Jesus Celebration Centre and is destined for Christmas chart success. The band 'The Hope' is made up of homeless people from MK, who want to make a difference.

A vision of Pastor Al who is the founder of the charity; (reg no. 1132461). He has one aim:  to make a difference to the lives of homeless in our community.  Pastor Al called in the musical talents of Debbie Murray and Dave Lakin to direct the CD, and very quickly rehearsals began with residents from Cambridge Street Hostel.  "It is amazing how positive involvement has impacted on the lives of the homeless.  I witnessed the resident's progress from sitting down and singing quietly to standing upright, confident and performing publically in the presence of the Mayor of MK, It's astonishing!"

Going to the studio was a unique experience.  Resident John Proctor commented " I never imagined at the age of 37 I would be doing this; I'm overwhelmed to have taken part, I have made friends and I will remember it for the rest of my life."  Pastor Al commented "This clearly demonstrates that projects like these support and motivate those whose lives have fallen into crisis".  All the money raised from the sales of this CD will be invested back into homeless projects at the JCC. These include The Cry of the Homeless Day Centre, JCC Training Centre, Food Bank, Winter Night Shelter & Sunday Morning Breakfast for the homeless.

Pastor Al is an inspiration. He says" I am an ordinary guy, married with three children.  It was my destiny to come to MK and bring changes to the lives of victims in the community and this project is achieving that objective."

The JCC relies solely on volunteers and Pastor Al sends a big thank you to all who continue to support his project.

The Cry of the Homeless CD will be available for download from iTunes, Amazon, JCC, CD Baby, and for sale at the JCC Book Shop. The cost is £3.

Stagestruck Youth Theatre presents Bugsy Malone

Posted: 13 Nov 2012 03:28 AM PST

Grab your splurge guns and head on down to Fat Sam’s Grand Slam on 16th and 17th November – it’s the hottest speakeasy in Milton Keynes!

Fat Sam is in danger of being closed down by his business rival Dandy Dan. Enter baby-faced Bugsy Malone, a killer with the ladies and a definite asset to Fat Sam. Unfortunately, Bugsy has also caught the eye of Sam’s girlfriend, Tallulah, though he’s set his designs on the showgirl, Blousey Brown.

In everyone’s favourite slapstick gangster musical comedy, Bugsy Malone follows the rivalry between two half-witted street gangs and the washed up, well-intentioned, one-time boxer who steps in to take control of Fat Sam's gang and give Dandy Dan and his boys what they've got coming.

Originally written for children to perform, it explores the roaring 20s, prohibition and the depression in a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the gangster movies of the thirties. About 30 youngsters ranging in age from 11-15 years from the theatre’s lively and creative youth theatre, Stagestruck, will be performing this gangster-themed extravaganza, set in Chicago in the 1920’s.

The show is produced by Katie Stratford and the theatre’s own technical team with the set designed and made by well known local artist and sculptor, Graham Mills, using wherever possible recycled products and whose list also includes making all the splurge guns. Expect plenty of wisecracks and some great singing and dancing – but watch out for those splurge guns!

Listing Information

Venue: Stantonbury Campus Theatre, Milton Keynes
Date: Friday 16th November at 7.30pm & Saturday 17th November at 3pm

The Tale of a Cat

Posted: 09 Nov 2012 12:32 PM PST

A new book by Susi Whittaker, Artist in Residence at The Stani Gallery in Stony Stratford, is now available featuring her original paintings depicting the story of Colin the Cat. Especially for children and cat lovers, this enchanting tale makes an ideal special present and unique gift.

An extract from the book ....

This is a tale of a cat called Colin.

Now when I say tale, I mean a little story about him.

Of course his tail follows him wherever he goes in his story, so it is a tale about his tail as well. Does that make sense to you ?

I hope you enjoy Colin's tale ( and tail ! ). So let me introduce you to him.

As you can see, the first thing you probably notice about

him.....is his large and expressive eyes...yes his body is large and expressive as well, I admit.

He has a kindly face, and is full of fun. However he is a bit lonely now he no longer lives with his family. So let's see how he manages for a year in his life......

To find out more, you can purchase the book from The Stani Gallery for only £ 6.50 as well as prints of the original paintings used in the book and a calendar too !

The Stani Gallery is open every day at 61 High Street in Stony Stratford. MK11 1AY. Tel : 01908 567656
