WANTED: Actors for event – 8th December

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 02:45 AM PST

OxfamMidlands are looking for actors for an event in Birmingham on Saturday 8th December 2012. We are staging  a mock land auction in the city centre to sell off  iconic landmarks across Birmingham. The event is designed to raise awareness about Land Grabs in developing countries-  big land deals forcing communities from their homes, jobs and food.

This is a paid opportunity and we will negotiate a reasonable fee with interested individuals.

The auction will last approximately 1 hour. The roles involve improvisation and role play, and there is only minimal preparation/rehearsal required. It is estimated that 500 + people will pass through during the event, and it will be covered by local media and by the OxfamMidlands Media team. It is a great opportunity to get some exposure, work with a high profile organisation, and also help make a difference to the lives of thousands of people across the world.

The following characters are required:

  • Auctioneer - this individual will be responsible for leading the auction and selecting the highest bidder. This is a very loud, no-nonsense type character who simply wants to get the job done and does not like being interrupted.
  • Auctioneer's assistant - the official assisting the auctioneer. They will be responsible for holding up the pictures of the properties and and taking down details of 'buyers'. They will also hand out auction catalogues to the audience and explain what is happening.
  • 2 x Corporate buyers - very smart business officials leading the bidding, buying most of the assets and quashing any opposition/dissent
  • 2 x Dissenters - 2 individuals dressed in 'normal' plain clothes, complaining about what is happening and striking up an argument with the buyers

If you are interested in filling one of the roles, or for any queries, please contact Matt Rickard or Kam Rana on 0121 6343611 or email krana@oxfam.org.uk by Monday 3rd December 2012.
