| BE Festival launches next week Posted: 29 Jun 2012 12:19 AM PDT 'There is plenty to savour at the boundary-smashing BE FESTIVAL' - The Guardian Next week, Birmingham will be awash with talented performers from all over Europe, as the 3rd annual BE FESTIVAL presents 20 of the most exciting new shows currently touring the continent, plus visual arts, workshops, discussions, concerts, dinners and parties. The festival kicks off on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd July at MAC Birmingham with a mesmerising show that won 1st Prize at last year's BE, and has since toured Europe collecting many awards along the way. This is your only chance to catch Sleepwalk Collective's 'As the flames rose…' before it transfers to London's Barbican Theatre this Autumn. The performance is followed by brilliant live music and entertainment. The Main Programme at AE Harris runs from the 4th-7th July, and features four half-hour shows a night, plus daytime discussions, workshops and visual art exhibitions. | Speakeasy Theatre-Makers’ Network Posted: 29 Jun 2012 12:07 AM PDT Birmingham Repertory Theatre will be hosting a Speakeasy Theatre – Makers Network meeting on Tuesday 3rd July at 6.30pm at The Drop Forge, Hockley Street, Birmingham B18 6BL. Speakeasy is a networking forum for West Midlands based theatre artists and other practitioners who are interested in knowing more about each other and the local scene. Speakeasy events are hosted by The REP and provide a lively debate on current issues, a scratch n' pitch opportunity to test out new writing or ideas and practical advice from people in the know on how to get on in the industry. Speakers have included theatre producers, independent artists and representatives from funding bodies. The meeting on July 3rd will offer a chance to find out who's who and who's new in The REP's Arts Team, and discover more about The REP's Theatre Makers programme and Creative Hub. | Posted: 29 Jun 2012 12:03 AM PDT INFORMAL GATHERINGS FOR THEATRE/TV/RADIO PROFESSIONALS IN THE MIDLANDS The next Theatre Cuppa will be on Wednesday 11th July. We thought it would be good to try out a new venue this time, see what that's like. So we'll be at The Blue Orange Theatre from 6pm onwards. For those who find daytime gatherings easier to get to, we'll have one of those again soon. If you are working in theatre, radio, tv & community arts in the West Midlands then we'd love to see you. Theatre Cuppa is an informal opportunity to catch up with other people working in the area, to connect personally and professionally with people you may or may not know – in a relaxed and friendly environment. Children are welcome too, so do bring them along if you'd like. If you're coming alone or haven't been before, grab either of us – Rochi or Ali - we'll be the ones wearing the red carnations. And if you haven't managed to get to the Blue Orange Theatre yet, come along and see the space. The theatre is at 118 Great Hampton Street, B18 6AD, with free parking in the surrounding roads after 6pm. Coronation Day, 1937: A young woman stumbles into a revolutionary rally aimed at shaking up British society and falls instantly in love. Jubilee Weekend, 2012: A young man with a terrible hangover is stranded in an old people's home and loses reception. Two cogs in the machine, a generation apart, come loose. The new show from award-winning Inspector Sands examines 95 years gone by in a flash and an afternoon that lasts an eternity.
