Posted: 12 Jun 2012 09:07 AM PDT Thursday 26.7.2012 Scratch Nights Talk Fred Roche Memorial Lecture Thursday 26 July / 7pm / Free Fred Roche came to Milton Keynes in 1970, aged just 39, to take on what was then one of the biggest jobs in the country, General Manager of Milton Keynes Development Corporation. Building had not yet started on the largest and most ambitious new city the country had ever seen, and the board of MKDC feared it never would. They needed a General Manager who would 'make it happen', and they thought the young Fred Roche was their man. His friends, colleagues and family have formed the Fred Roche Foundation to establish this lecture series which will foster the values which energised this great man. This year's lecture will address issues relating to how our cities are evolving and the impact that carbon reduction targets and information and communication technologies will have on the form of our cities, on Milton Keynes, and the way we live. Speakers include: Professor John Miles, Research Chair of Transitional Energy Strategies at Cambridge University, previously Arup's Global Leader of Energy, Resources and Industry. Professor John Worthington, co-founder of DEGW, who has pioneered methods of adapting urban and space planning techniques to meet the needs of the emerging knowledge economy. Lee Shostak, Founding Director of Shared Intelligence, and chair of the Town and Country Planning Association will chair the meeting.
