An evening of sharing and celebrating the poetry, short stories and songs of Edward Bond.

Bond, considered by some to be the Shakespeare of our times, is celebrating fifty years as a major and controversial British playwright. This evening, however, is dedicated to highlighting his lesser known, but no less substantial, contribution to poetry. As with his plays, Bond uses his poems to explore one burning, central question: "What does it mean to be human?"

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3.50 for concessions.

The event is produced as part of Bond @50, a year of special performances, projects and events to celebrate Edward Bond's remarkable fifty year contribution to British and World theatre.

12 Jun 2012 - Classical at Symphony Hall

21 years to the day after the official opening of the UK's finest concert hall by Her Majesty The Queen, the champagne corks will be popping at this gala concert. The celebrations are led by Bryn Terfel, who joins the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under Music Director Andris Nelsons. A centenary performance of Elgar's The Music Makers pays homage to Birmingham's rich musical heritage and the evening culminates in the ravishing colours of Ravel's Suite from Daphnis and ChloĆ© – performed at the very first Symphony Hall concert in 1991.
