There are proposals for a £50 million investment in education and sport at Compton Park with community benefits for all of Wolverhampton, creating 150 jobs directly in construction and an additional 250 jobs in the supply chain.
The project involves a remodelled school, a new single-site football academy and new executive housing at Compton Park, with re-investment by the University in a Science Facility on its City Campus and the gifting of the indoor arena at Aldersley Leisure Village to the Wolves Community Trust.
The opportunity has arisen because the University of Wolverhampton is to vacate its Compton Park Campus, which once housed over 1,000 students.
This has led to a unique collaboration between some of the main landowners on Compton Park: the University of Wolverhampton, the Archdiocese of Birmingham and Wolverhampton Wanderers ('Wolves') Football Club, together with Redrow Homes and Wolverhampton Building Schools for the Future (BSF).
Working in partnership, these public and private sector organisations have drawn up coordinated plans for the development of Compton Park. The proposals are completely interdependent and the nature of BSF funding means there is a very limited window of opportunity to bring them to fruition.
The partners believe these plans will benefit the whole community – from the parents, children and staff of St Edmund's Catholic School, the Wolves Community Trust working with children and young adults throughout the City, and students and researchers at the University of Wolverhampton through their proposed new Applied Science Building.
They will also support the Club's aim to create a world-class Football Academy – to be at the forefront of Premier League developments, giving Wolverhampton's talented local youngsters the best possible chance to progress within a world-class facility.
