| Tread the Boards Theatre Group presents.. Posted: 04 Feb 2012 04:40 AM PST Improbable Fiction by Alan Ayckbourn The trials and tribulations of an amateur writing group! Have you ever tried to write a novel? In Improbable Fiction we meet six aspiring authors, members of the Pendon Writers Circle, struggling to achieve literary success. They gather at their last meeting before Christmas to review their progress, or rather their combined lack of it. The mix comprises Jess, a would-be writer of historical romances; Grace, an artist trying to write children's literature but who cannot get started; Vivvi, a crime novelist of considerable output who cannot get published; Clem, a writer of highly complicated science fiction; and Brevis, a librettist who has lost his musical collaborator. The evening is organised by the group's chairman, Arnold, a shop assistant who writes instruction manuals. Helping out with refreshments and attending to Arnold's bed-ridden mother is Ilsa, a young shop assistant colleague of Arnold's. In an attempt to get the group out of its literary rut, Arnold suggests that pooling their resources into a collaborative effort might be a way forward. The idea is received without enthusiasm and, no further forward with their endeavours, the meeting closes. But then ... a clap of thunder, the lights go out, and strange things begin to happen, as the story that might have been starts to revolve around the increasing bewildered Arnold. A highly unusual and very funny play from the witty pen of Alan Ayckbourn. See it at:The Chrysalis TheatreJaponica Lane, Willen Park South. On: Friday April 13th 7.30pm Saturday April 14th 7.30pm Admission: £8.50 (Adults) and £6.50 (*Concessions)  Further information and booking at: http://www.tread-the-boards.org.uk/    |
