Oh! Oh! Diana (with apologies to Paul Anka) …..and a links round up

It's not often that someone puts a call out directed specifically to me so I was instantly intrigued.  Further investigation reveals it's (Turner Prize Winning) Mark Wallinger no less, who wants us Dianas, it seemed rude not to respond.

I may well be the body shape he is after (for the exhibition 'Metamorphosis: Titian 2012' at The National Gallery) however I am still pondering whether I would be brave enough to bare it all to be a piece of contemporary art.

Any other Dianas in the area who want to know more please leave me a comment…..

Anyway I might be a bit busy in Nottinghamshire from July to September…..please let me know what I could be doing here instead!

Meanwhile here's a little links round up for May and June

Like buses cultural events often come along together…..or cross over in a way that means you would be hard pushed to get round everything but give it a go…. cultural marathon story to share anyone? (It is Olympic year)

Now in its 18th year the "festival of clay in all its forms" features over 100 potters selling from outdoor stalls in the grounds of Rufford Abbey, plus free demonstrations and talks.

Architecture Student turns to world of Fashion

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 02:25 AM PDT

It's not often that students graduate in one discipline and then immediately find their careers taking off in a completely different direction, but that's exactly what has happened to recent graduate Michel Geraghty has been featured on the cover of a leading fashion magazine.

The 21-year-old, who graduated last year with a degree in BA (Hons) Architecture, has appeared on the cover of Drapers magazine, a leading fashion industry publication, and featured in TK Maxx's re-branding exercise.

Michel first appeared on a catwalk as a model in the School's annual Fashion Show, and has since modelled in London shows, spent two weeks at the Milan Fashion shows, and has just shot a soon to be released look book celebrating the 30th anniversary of designer men's clothing company Stone Island.

Michel explains: "I was interested in fashion throughout my time at university, combining my degree in Architecture with working as a stylist and for a luxury luggage label, and starting up my blog. I was in London with another model as his stylist and waiting outside the shoot for him when an agency scout asked me if I was the model.

"I didn't plan to become a model, but just happened to be in the right place at the right time and things have escalated from there. I love modelling and fashion, but hope to pick up my career in architecture again in a few years' time," Michael explained.

Call for would-be models
Prospective models are being offered the chance to follow in Michel's footsteps as the School is gearing up for this year's Fashion Show.  Fashion Studies Programme Leader Maria Manning said: "It is very gratifying for all of us in the Fashion department to know that Michel's modelling career has taken off and we wish him all the very best for the future.

"In the meantime, we are offering again, the opportunity of invaluable catwalk experience to aspiring models living or working in the Lincolnshire area, at our next fashion show in May. Who knows who will be discovered next?"

A model casting event is being held on Wednesday, April 25, and people over the age of 18 and 5ft 8ins and above and size 10 to 12 (for females) and 6ft and above (for males) are being invited to try out. Models must be available for a rehearsal on 24 May and for the Shows on 25 May. Register your attendance via email or call 01522 837100.

Fit for a Monarch - Fashion Collection

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 03:15 AM PDT

Fit For A Monarch is a collection of knitted garments made by students from our BA (Hons) Fashion Studies programme, which are to be exhibited at The National Centre For Craft and Design in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, from 2 June until 9 June, as part of the national celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The level two students, together with lecturer Sarah Carr are currently working in association with artsNK and the Learning team at the National Centre for Craft and Design. The Exhibition and Workshop by the students will be part of the Keep Calm and Carry Yarn events at the NCCD in June 2012.

Working in small groups the students researched each decade of the Queen's reign, looking at social and technological developments as well asevents relating specifically to the royal family, or world events that have impacted on our nation. Using this as inspiration, they are developing knitted fabrics and garments to be worn for special occasions.

Students will steward, promote the event via social media, and run a knit workshop during the period of the exhibition, which will take place throughout Jubilee week. In contrast to fashion knit, this project will prove a valuable experience in taking craft into the community.
