Category:  Investigative/ Society/ Social Issues/ Politics

The Modern day horsemen continue to ride roughshod over the people who can least afford it.  Crises are converging when governments, religion and mainstream economists have stalled.  Twenty three international thinkers come together and break their silence about how the world really works and why there is still some hope in re-establishing a moral and just society.  Four Horsemen doesn’t bash bankers, criticise politicians or get

involved in conspiracy theories.  The film ignites the debate about how we usher a new economic paradigm into the world which would dramatically improve the quality of life for billions.

Work Experience Opportunities at Inter-Action MK

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 09:22 AM PDT

Are you an Arts student or graduate looking to gain some valuable experience within community arts? Would you like the opportunity to showcase your skills and help create inclusive activities and workshops for disabled or disadvantaged people?

Community arts charity Inter-Action MK needs YOU!!!

We are hosting a four day programme of arts activities and events at the Old Rectory in July 2012, which will celebrate, value and show the richness of people and objects which are often overlooked, discarded or excluded by society. It will be inclusive and provide opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged people of Milton Keynes.  It will promote resourcefulness and demonstrate that one persons rubbish is another persons treasure.  Our cherished festival will not aim for the spectacular, but will rather offer alternative experiences in an intimate environment.

The summer Festival/ Camp will provide professional development training for arts students through a series of volunteer opportunities for those who are interested in developing careers in community arts.  This would be in the form of:

  • 5 volunteer placements for students working on community projects for the event (2 days a week for two months)

  • 5 volunteer opportunities to help run the event (for the duration of the event)

All volunteers will camp at the Old Rectory during the event and some travel/additional expenses will be paid.

If you have an idea for an interesting  project relating to the themes of resourcefulness and exclusion and would like to benefit from this fabulous opportunity to lead on your own community project, then please submit your proposal on one side of A4 to the below email address by Thursday 31st May 2012.

If you are interested in working alongside staff to organise and run the event then please contact us  and we will forward you a volunteer application form.

Email: info@interactionmk.org.uk

Make songs and see the world and Stony Stratford!

Posted: 17 Apr 2012 11:53 AM PDT

Are you a songwriter?

Local songwriter/performer/activist Dan Plews founded Aortas in 2010 following a successful one-week residential songwriting workshop in Milton Keynes in August 2010, which attracted seventeen people aged 17-69 from seven different countries.

Aortas (which stands for Association for Oral Traditions and Songwriting) recently received a grant to promote and teach Folk Music and Songwriting in partnership with six other countries between 2011 and 2013, bringing local people to five different countries.

The partnership grant awarded by the EU Grundtvig Programme totals €156,000; the body supports cross-border adult education (or 'life-long-learning') initiatives. The first of the international visits was to Bucharest (Romania) in December 2011, followed more recently by Aarhus (Denmark) in March. This will be followed by trips to Poland, Slovenia, Ireland and Germany. In addition, Aortas is hosting a workshop in Austria in August, and plans several more in the UK over the next twelve months.

Since December 2011, Aortas has been running an Open Mic every Sunday evening at the Bull Hotel in Stony Stratford, and from April 22nd this will be preceded by a song-circle - a learning opportunity for budding and established songwriters who would like to:

- improve their writing;

- write with others;

- teach others;

- perform songs for others to evaluate.

Anyone wishing to be involved can get more information from the Aortas website - www.aortas.org.uk - speak to the organisers at one of their regular meetings - or email dan@aortas.org.uk
