Mini Makers

Secret Spaces with Clare Ridgeway

Saturday 5 May / 1 - 3pm / Free

Suitable for children aged 4+

All of our Mini Maker workshops in May are inspired by Station X, our latest Project Space exhibition, which offers a multi-sensory insight into the derelict buildings of Bletchley Park.

This first session will explore the notion of absence. How do we identify familiar shapes, text and patterns if their form is secret or has been altered, aged, or subtracted?  During this workshop you will be asked to trace, draw, colour and create from memory and your imagination.

Daniel Goodman: Recent Watercolours

Posted: 26 Apr 2012 06:32 AM PDT

Avenue Gallery is pleased to welcome back recent Fine Art graduate Daniel Goodman, who will be showing a new series of watercolour paintings in the Corridor Gallery at The University of Northampton's Avenue Campus throughout May.

A large part of Goodman's artistic practice is the exploration of the visceral qualities of oil paint; he produced these watercolour paintings in order to explore a different medium and to see how his painting technique would translate into watercolour. The works in this exhibition shift between abstraction and representation and through this the artist hopes to give the work a kind of tension, which is also reflected in the intensity of mark and the complexity of the compositions.

Avenue Gallery will be holding an opening event for this and the Viewfinder exhibition in the Gallery itself on Tuesday 1 May from 5-8pm, to which all are welcome.  The exhibition will be open to the public from 30 April to 25 May (Monday-Friday 10am-4pm closed bank holiday Monday 7 May).

Viewfinder

Posted: 26 Apr 2012 06:50 AM PDT

Viewfinder brings together work by Brook & Black, Paul Coldwell, Nicholas Devison, Edward Dimsdale, Michael Evans, Jo Love and Mark Shaw, all of whom explore the nature of photographic representation within an increasingly digitised environment through a variety of print media. Formally diverse, each artist engages with ideas concerning the contingency of perception, dislocation of place, interventions and disruption of meaning.

Viewfinder will run from 30 April - 25 May and is open to the public Mondays-Fridays 10am-4pm (closed bank holiday Monday 7 May).  Admission is free.  Avenue Gallery is located in The University of Northampton's Avenue Campus on St. George's Avenue, Northampton NN2 6JD.  For more information about the exhibition please contact the Gallery on 01604 893046 or email gallery@northampton.ac.uk.

Loveliness Camp Student Ad

Are you an Arts Student or graduate looking to gain some valuable experience within community arts? Would you like the opportunity to showcase your skills and help create inclusive activities and workshops for disabled or disadvantaged people in the process?

Community arts charity Inter-Action MK needs YOU!!!

We are hosting a four day programme of arts activities and events at the Old Rectory in July 2012, which will celebrate, value and show the richness of people and objects which are often overlooked, discarded or excluded by society. It will be inclusive and provide opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged people of Milton Keynes.  It will promote resourcefulness and demonstrate that one persons rubbish is another persons treasure.  Our cherished festival will not aim for the spectacular, but will rather offer alternative experiences in an intimate environment.

The summer Festival/ Camp will provide professional development training for arts students through a series of volunteer opportunities for those who are interested in developing careers in community arts.  This would be in the form of:

  • 5 volunteer placements for students working on community projects for the event (2 days a week for two months)

  • 5 volunteer opportunities to help run the event (for the duration of the event)

All volunteers will camp at the Old Rectory during the event and some travel/additional expenses will be paid.

If you have an idea for an interesting  project relating to the themes of resourcefulness and exclusion and would like to benefit from this fabulous opportunity to lead on your own community project, then please submit your proposal on one side of A4 by..............

If you would like any more information please contact Emmy Narbutas or Amy Hill, Creative Producers at Inter-Action MK , on 01908 678514 or email enarbutas@interactionmk.org.uk or ahill@interactionmk.org.uk

Inter-Action MK has been bringing arts to life in Milton Keynes for over 35 years. We use the arts to improve the life chances of Disabled people and people in challenging circumstances. Our innovative programme of inclusive arts successfully brings people of all backgrounds together in shared creative activity. Our programme helps participants to develop creative, personal and social skills
