Claudine on "Cogglesford Mill, Lincolnshire UK"

Cogglesford Mill is a watermill on the eastern outskirts of Sleaford, about 18 miles south of Lincoln and 15 miles east of Grantham.

The Mill, Mill house and the stables all form part of an unusual group of Grade II listed buildings. Although only yards from the busy A153 east coast road, they are surrounded by trees and pasture fields. The present mill, built mainly in the eighteenth century, blends perfectly with the surrounding landscape. When the River Slea is full of water and ducks and water-fowl chatter on its pond, it is most people's picture of what a traditional English watermill should be. Until recently, however, it was suffering from years of neglect, coming very close to collapse during the 1980s. North Kesteven District Council was given the mill in 1990 by Mr Robert Staples, the owner of the rest of the site. The Council has now taken on the task of restoring it and opening it for visitors.

Award winning Cogglesford Mill is situated in a picturesque setting by the River Slea and is thought to be the only Sheriff's watermill still operating in England. Millers have produced flour on this site for over 1000 years. Organic stone ground wholemeal flour produced in the mill is sold in the Mill shop.
