Davie Hunt: Combobulators - A Micro Exhibition Experiment

Posted: 16 Oct 2012 08:22 AM PDT

DAVIE HUNT
COMBOBULATORS
A MICRO EXHIBITION EXPERIMENT

The thought or feeling of the now, only ever becomes mature in its persistence and the realization of the vastness in ones own insignificance.

My work primarily responds to the natural landscape such as woodland environments, but also to technology and its implications upon painting. Placing these subjects together as counterparts, a symbiotic relationship is sought, in order to explore contemporary notions of landscape painting, whilst maintaining a dialogue with art historical discourses of painting.

Making pictures with paint on a substrate harks back to centuries of painting and its history, while making pictures with pixels on a computer screen is a relatively new concept, with only a few decades of art historical substance.  Painting’s malleable, analogous processes conducted through the act of painting, lends the artist a sense of intimacy and physical connection in a way that is seemingly diluted by computer art’s electronic, digital processes conducted through the operation of human machine interfaces commonly known as keyboard, mouse or touch-screen.

By interlacing ideas of landscape painting with ideas of digital imaging, I am trying to create mechanisms which convey aesthetic tensions between
arboreal environments and the urban sprawl, where the asymmetry of natural landscape forms contend with the linear forms of the man-made.
Whether my work is made with analogous or electronic processes, sensitive or aggressive gestures, it is always exploring for understanding and
rationalization of painting in the light of digital reproduction.

MK Gallery: English National Ballet

Posted: 16 Oct 2012 06:35 AM PDT

Pop Up Performance: English National Ballet
Thursday 18 October / 6.30pm / Free

English National Ballet pop-up experiences are a collaborative series of unexpected site-specific performances and exhibitions taking over spaces for one day or evening.

At MK Gallery, principals of the company Begona Cao and Zdenek Konvalina will perform a new work by English National Ballet Associate, artist George Williamson, inspired by our current exhibition James Welling: The Mind on Fire.

English National Ballet is one of the world’s great ballet companies, which celebrated its 60th year in 2010. The original vision - to take classical ballet of the highest quality to the widest geographical audience, at price everyone can afford - remains the cornerstone of the Company’s philosophy today.

In a huge, old-fashioned luxury hotel a stranger tries to persuade a married woman to run away with him, but it seems she hardly remembers the affair they may have had (or not?) last year at Marienbad.
