The Olde Watermill

Posted: 09 Oct 2012 08:31 AM PDT

The Olde Watermill is delighted to welcome “Arts Gateway MK “ member, Lynne Lane to it’s newly opened Miller’s Market Place which offers an opportunity to artists, crafts people and small retailers to obtain space in a retail environment at very inexpensive rates. The Market Place is fully staffed at all times by our own staff, and includes credit card facilities, wrapping and packaging. We would look to take 10% commission on all products sold.  A variety of options are available such as cabinets from £40 per month and floor space, for example, 1 meter by 1 meter or 1 meter by 1.5 meters could start from as little as £20 per week or £30 per week respectively, but these spaces could also be shared.  Long term, we will create a workshop area for people to run their own courses or workshops, which could be rented by the hour or day. It’s an amazing chance for new businesses to test the market and save money as we man the shop for you. All you need to do is set up your area, display your product, and make sure that you replenish stock as and when you sell. The Miller’s Market Place will give our visitors a true market place experience. Space availability on request.

Another exciting new project, located in the grounds of the historic Grade 2 listed Watermill in Barton-le-Clay, is our Craft Village which comprises individual units situated around the mill pond ideal for artists and crafts people.

The Watermill Craft Village is a working community that will provide an added attraction to the site. Visitors are able to watch and chat to the artists whilst they work and purchase work presented for sale. Already a thriving shopping village, set out in a quasi-Victorian style village, with 15 independent shops, Plant Market, newly opened Antiques Emporium, Restaurant, Coffee Shop and children’s play area, the Watermill attracts visitors across the county. The popular Christmas Village opens from September onwards and attracts over 30,000 visitors per month during the festive season.

A venue for popular events such as the Classic Car Rally, Halloween Haunted Mill, Victorian Gala Nights and this year a Christmas panto in our very own Marquee Theatre, the Watermill is an emerging hot spot for day-trippers and coach parties.

A basic unit, which can comprise any combination of workshop/retail/display space to suit the artist, will be approx 13ft x 10ft and would cost in the region of £45 per week.

We are open to working with artists to create the right space so units can be made smaller or larger depending on requirements and hire can be individual or shared.

Now is the time to contact us as we add to the village which already hosts  a woodturner, card maker, stained glass studio and vintage textile artist. If you would like to be part of this exciting new craft community do contact us now.

Both of these ventures are substantially backed up by extensive advertising campaigns, editorials and our website, and we aim for them to become the best craft outlets in the region.
