MIY way – Co-oproduct launch – how to reuse materials & Make It Yourself

Posted: 02 May 2012 04:06 PM PDT

Co-oproduct launch an enlightened family?

I am no stranger to creative recycling/upcycling/reuse ( I write this adorned with jewellery by Anna Roebuck made from plastic bags and aluminium cans, not though you'd notice). Just because its recycled it doesn't have to look like rubbish! This was demonstrated yesterday evening by Co-oproduct founders Jamie & Tracy at a small gathering to celebrate the launch of their community interest company.

They describe their website as a portal for the free sharing of product design ideas focusing on Creative ReUse. You can register and submit product ideas, sell them as ready mades on the site and more interestingly each design must have step by step Make it Yourself (MIY) instructions! Anyone who uses the design can donate to the designer through an online Honesty-Box.

Jamie & Tracy want more designers and makers to submit products to the site and spread the word about the community they are building both regionally and beyond. Co-oproduct also do research and education work.

The Third Degree

Posted: 02 May 2012 07:20 AM PDT

"THE THIRD DEGREE" is a new contemporary art exhibition showcasing the work of fifty-two emerging artists opening in June 2012. The show combines and celebrates the final chapter of the University of Lincoln's third year Fine Art students as they finish their degree course, and begin to embark on their own individual artistic careers.

The aim of the show is to bring together various artistic media in a well-curated and inspiring exhibition of artwork, to showcase the talent and diversity of students at the University of Lincoln. Each artist works significantly differently to the next, the show is about finding correlations and in some cases oppositions, to show the work as a coherent and interesting body of work.

"THE THIRD DEGREE" originates from an idea that the outcome of three years at university provides a candidate with a degree level qualification. The 'third' represents the three years of study we have all completed to get to this point. The alternative meaning of third degree is the idea of intensive questioning. This relates to the role of the artist and how he or she formulates and deciphers questioning through the process of artistic creation, to achieve an outcome with substantial thought and intention behind an aesthetic product.

Artists included in the show are: Adam Jaques, Aislinn Ritchie, AJ Richards, Amir Ghazi-Noory, Amy Lawson, Callum Laird, Charlotte Bitter, Charlotte Fox, David Fowling, Liz Brady, Freyja McKenna, Gary Funston, Hannah Coleman, Hannah Spiers, Harriet Ellis, Heather Maxted, James Mullet, Jennifer Smith, Jo Sams, Kathryn Barrett, Kathryn Hewes, Kim Frost, Kim Woodard, Laura Dodgson, Laura Johnson, Laura-Jane Luff, Leanne Nixon, Leanne Robinson, Leanne Stiffel, Lucy Price, Masa Barisic, Mel Garwood, Naomi Prentice, Nathan Baxter, Nealie Harding, Nick Kyriacou, Rebecca Reid, Rebecca Willoughby, Rob Garniss, Roisin Vance, Roz Whaler, Rose Mower, Ross Oliver, Samantha Priestly, Sarah Potton, Samantha Woods, Sarah-Jane Barnett, Scarlet Summerfield, Sonya Barnett, Sophie Stanley, Tomas Mcclements.

Andrew Bracey, senior lecturer at the Lincoln School of Art and Design commented, "The exhibition provides third year students with the experience of working in a team and to a professional standard, that can be used after they graduate. The show encompasses three years of hard work and determination to get to this end point and enables students to network and to promote themselves ready for their own art careers outside of the university. It is the most exciting period of the Fine Art degree course for staff and students."

"THE THIRD DEGREE" will take place at the GREESTONE BUILDING, Lindum Road, Lincoln, Lincolnshire (next to the Usher Gallery) from the 1-15 June 2012 (excluding bank holidays and weekends; open Saturday 2 June). A private view will be held on Friday 1st June from 6-9 pm (invitation only).
Admission is free.

Greestone building, which opened in 1893, was formally Christ's Hospital Foundation Girl's School. It is now part of the University of Lincoln's cultural quarter and building for Fine Art courses used for studio space and exhibitions. Greestone building boasts its own gallery and adjacent Tithe Barn.

For more information, to be sent mailings and materials, or to set up interviews with the artists, contact Kimberley Woodard on 07791508623 or 07130156@students.lincoln.ac.uk.
