[S.I.B. (Self Injurous Behaviour) - Cuts against Cuts]

Recent Fine Art graduate Benjamin Sebastian has exhibited extensively throughout the UK, America, Australia and Europe. He is co-founder of ArtEvict - a monthly, Live Art platform - and the artist collective, The Greestone Group (along with fellow University of Lincoln graduates: Fabiola Paz & Joana Cifre Cerda).

Benjamin currently works as the Assistant Director at ]performance s p a c e [ London, where he is also one of the six founding associate artists.

Intuition and the body, collaboration, dialectic relationships and the process of assemblage construct the core of Benjamin Sebastian's creative process. His practice is at times playful as well as sinister and always concerned with the act(s) of living/existing. Repetition and duration are divining tools that the artist incorporates in an attempt to find reason in the irrational and the profound in the mundane. Greatly influenced by Queer Theory, this practice is process: Be-coming, again and again.

]performance s p a c e [ is an artist led non-profit organisation that provides studio and project space. They are different to conventional studio space in their approach and set up, as each studio artist has a desk and use of a large communal flux space (3,000 sq foot).

"Together we aim to cultivate live work that critically and physically pushes the boundaries of body and space. It is a place where work can unfold without restraints of curation, duration or space; committed to supporting challenging and difficult work that embraces performance art as an ever-evolving medium.

The ethos of ]performance s p a c e [ is that it's good to work together; sharing information, resources and engaging in critical discussion about each others practice. The studio space addresses our interest in and the necessity of the work between events and pieces; its open-plan layout across two floors encouraging dialogue between works and people.

]performance s p a c e [ strives to act as a hub or home to national and international artists in transit; developing the performance art network, a supportive community and act as a place of research and dissemination outside mainstream education and gallery structures.

The space is also used for workshops, exhibitions and events, providing all studio artists the opportunity to organise and realise their own projects. Studio space is available on a rolling monthly basis to develop a core community of studio artists and short term to widen the performance network. All artists have access to an extensive performance library and technical equipment.
