Making Moves: Creating Futures for Craft Posted: 29 Jan 2013 01:22 AM PST
Making Moves is a craft development initiative with a residency programme and touring exhibition taking place across the West Midlands between September 2011 and August 2013. Nine craft residencies took place across the West Midlands between October 2011 and March 2012. Mid-career makers of various disciplines were placed in non-traditional venues which included a hospital, a park visitors centre and an empty shop. The residencies aimed to challenge the artists and offer personal and creative development through the experience. They ran making workshops with selected community groups working towards a small public exhibition at the end of the each residency. The artists used their time and experiences of the community setting as a source of inspiration to develop a new piece of work which will be created for the Making Moves Touring Exhibition. In addition each residency involved a graduate to support the artist in the community sessions. The Graduate Placement received a bursary, mentoring and support in developing new work, to be included in the Touring Exhibition. 2013 touring exhibition dates are as follows: 7 - 31 January - Centre for the Aston Family, Birmingham 4 - 28 Feburary - School of Jewellery, Birmingham (Opening: 5-7pm on 4 February 2013) 4 - 27 March - Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley 27 March - 24 April - Kidderminster Hospital, Bewdley Road, Kidderminster 26 April - 29 May - Savoy Centre, Netherton, Dudley 31 May - 27 June - Venue tbc, Leamington 29 June - 31 July - Holy Trinity Church, Coventry 1 - 31 August - 10 West Mall, Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre, Solihull
