The University's Collegeof Arts recently took part in the Centenary celebrations of one of China's top Arts Universities.

Nanjing University of the Arts was one of the first art academies to be built in China, founded as the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 1912 and later moving to Nanjing.  The centennial celebrations also coincide with the foundation of an ongoing relationship with the University of Lincoln.

Professor Michael Healey, Professor of Art and Design within the School of Art and Design at the University of Lincoln, represented Professor Norman Cherry, Pro Vice Chancellor, who was honoured to be the only UKacademic invited to attend the celebrations.

Professor Cherry marked the occasion and the affiliation between the establishments by designing a commemorative silver bowl. The unique artwork, engraved with the University crest and a suitable inscription was presented to Professor Zou Jianping, President of Nanjing University of the Arts, at an official dinner attended by all foreign dignitaries and guests.

Professor Cherry said of the international collaboration: "Here at the University of Lincoln we were honoured to be invited to share in the 100th Anniversary celebrations at the Nanjing Universityof the Arts. It is a significant milestone for them and a privilege for us to have been able to contribute to the festivities.

"A senior member of Nanjingstaff, Wang Kezhen, is a former student of mine.  He and Huang Xiao Wang, who holds a similar post at China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou, visited us here in Lincolnlast year, and to be able to build on our international relationships is valuable for everyone involved.

"We can now share the wealth of creative expertise that exists at both universities, and this is something we are very much looking forward to capitalising on in the future. Professor Healey has already delivered lectures on Fine Art during his recent visit to China, and we have others planned over the course of the next year. With the University of Lincoln's School of Art & Design 150 Year Anniversary also taking place later this year now is a fantastic time to enhance such beneficial international collaborations."
