MK Gallery Project Space
4 January  -  3 February 2013
Special Event: 17 January 2013 / 6 - 9pm / Free

The exhibition is the culmination of a series of workshops commissioned by Inter- Action MK in which artist Elizabeth Beston (aka ShutterBetty) was invited to work with two groups of local women. Many of the women had been supported by the St Francis' Children's Society's Birth Connections project. The aim of the workshops was to enable the participants to contemplate and express their personal experiences.

The final exhibition in MK Gallery's Project Space in January 2013 features photographic self-portraits made by the participants from the women's groups alongside work by local female artists.

Women from MK are invited to be part of this exhibition by creating their own self-portrait of any medium to feature on the accompanying blog womenmk.wordpress.com. Images need to be no less than 72ppi and 500 pixels wide, if shooting from a mobile device the default size is acceptable. Email images to shutterbettyuk@gmail.com

During the special event on Thursday 17 January between 6-9pm all female visitors will be invited to contribute to the exhibition by creating their own self-portrait.

The Art of Storytelling with John Kirk

We invite you to join our fantastic storyteller John Kirk to become part of an unusual story, exploring the current exhibition and bringing the artworks to life. Using the exhibition as a stimulus you will work with John to include elements of the show in a collaborative tale which unravels as you explore the spaces and look closer into the exhibitions themes.  The story is not predetermined but the gallery offers you a blank page to inspire your ideas and create a wonderful journey for you and your readers. This session celebrates the start of National Storytelling Week (Sat 26th Jan - Sat 2nd Feb 2013).
