Arts Council England invite Gallery to Develop Future Plans

Posted: 22 Jan 2013 06:12 AM PST

ACE support for Gallery's Future Plans

MK Gallery is delighted to have been invited by Arts Council England to apply for a Stage Two grant from its Large Capital Grants scheme for an exciting development.

Milton Keynes Theatre & Gallery Company has attracted significant investment into Milton Keynes since it opened the theatre and the gallery in 1999. As a result, the free artistic, family and community events provided by the gallery have become an essential part of the cultural life and appeal of the city. The proposed development will enable the organisation to welcome larger audiences and to become more economically sustainable in the long term.

Sally Abbott, South East Regional Director at Arts Council England, says: "MK Gallery is an important asset for Milton Keynes, attracting arts and cultural visitors to the city and, as a key partner in the biennial international festival MK IF, helping to invest millions of pounds into the local economy each year. We're delighted to be inviting the gallery to apply for stage 2 of our large-scale capital funding programme to extend its exhibition facilities and create new and exciting spaces in which much wider audiences will be able to experience world class arts at the heart of the city's community."

MK Gallery's Director Anthony Spira, says: "This is fantastic news for the city. Over the coming months we will be working closely with our partners and stakeholders at Milton Keynes Council to develop an expanded centre for the arts that is fit for a city with one of the fastest growing populations in the UK. A new café, cinema and increased gallery spaces will enable us to provide more art, music, film and performance to more people in central Milton Keynes.'

Arts Council England champions, develops and invests in artistic and cultural experiences that enrich people's lives. They support a range of activities across the arts, museums and libraries – from theatre to digital art, reading to dance, music to literature, and crafts to collections. www.artscouncil.org.uk
