total and utter dereliction and abandonment, I do however seem to recall that some of it was in use when I was mooching around there some eighteen months ago now..

Corah Works, Leicester

Theres been a few reports on other forums of Corah, and i finally got to see the place myself, seems strange i always go to far afield sites then dont go to places almost on my doorstep :scratch:
Hopefully i have a few new photos as its a huge site.

Apologies the photos arent great, my usual camera has died and need to save for another one :blush2:

Founded by Nathaniel Corah who died in 1832, the business was carried on and grown by his sons.

The St Margarets site opened on 13th July 1865 and by 1866 over 1000 people were employed at the works

This memorial was unveiled on the 12th June 2011
and is located in the grounds of St John the Baptist, Mayfield, Staffordshire
All the crew perished on the 13th June 1944

STARR Joseph Royal Air Force, Flying Officer, Pilot 53473, died aged 29. Son of Max and Bertha Starr of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada and husband of Irene Ellen Starr. At rest in Wilford Hill jewish Cemetery, Nottingham
Note, the CWGC have STAR

BUCHANAN George David Wills, Royal Canadian Air Force. Sergeant, Navigator J/39007, died aged 20. Son of William and Sarah of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At rest at Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey


DAVIS William Corley, Royal Canadian Air Force, Sergeant R/193967, died aged 22. Son of James Corley and gertrude Helen Davis of Toranto, Ontario, Canada. At rest at Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey
Note, his death has been registered as DAVIES

PATERSON William George, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Sergeant, Air Gunner 1024471, died aged 31. Son of Alexander and Violet beatrice Dudley Paterson of Torryburn and husband of Isabella Bryce Paterson also of Torryburn and is at rest in Torryburn Cemetery, Fifeshire, Scotland

TAYLOR Richard John, Royal Cadanian Air Force, Sergeant R/203228, died aged 21. Son of Richard John and Lucy Margaret Taylor of Toranto, Ontario Canada. At rest at Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey

STEVENS James Joseph Ursan, Royal Canadian Air Force, Sergeant R/206869, died aged 19. Son of Ursan Joseph and Dorothy Stevens of Quebec City, Canada. At rest at Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey

The previous and newly opened fire stations in Knuton Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme - think I prefer the old one!

I think that's what it was called anyway...



(part of the industrial estate I've mentioned before which I've decided to split up a little)

I'm guessing that this would have been the offices for whatever was the original factory on the site before it was all split up, of course I may be wrong..
