Felix / Ephemetry

Thursday 9 February / 6.30pm / Free

Felix is the musical project of classically trained Lucinda Chua (touring member of Stars of the Lid), guitarist Chris Summerlin (Lords, Kogumaza) and drummer Neil Turpin (Yann Tiersen, Bilge Pump). Signed to independent Chicago label kranky, they released their debut album You Are The One I Pick in 2009. Felix have shared stages with the likes of Bill Callahan (Smog), Mick Turner (Dirty Three), Bat For Lashes and Owen Pallett. This Spring they will be touring North America in promotion of their new album Oh Holy Molar.

Press quotes for You Are The One I Pick:

"A gateway into another headspace, one aglow with uncertain magic"  - Andrzej Lukowski, BBC Music Review  "It carries a deceptively direct title for such an understated and elliptical collection of songs. Vocalist Lucinda Chua rarely raises her voice to a volume beyond that of a private conversation, yet her frequently arresting performances here have an air of unusual gravity."  - Matthew Murphy, Pitchfork  "Felix inhabit a twilit, shadowy region pitched somewhere between classical, drone, jazz, chamber-pop and spoken-word; like Bat For Lashes or Regina Spektor tipping heavy on the avant-garde side of the scales, it's an admirably skewed concoction... 9/10"  - James Skinner, Drowned In Sound

Emphemetry is the musical guise of Richard 'Biff' Birkin, a musician from Derby and founder of Time Travel Opps. Sometimes taking the form of intimate folk songs, ambient soundscapes, instrumentals, piano pieces, audio tinkering or post-rock; the music is more often than not inspired by the liminal, quiet timelessness of a city at night and the reflections or flights of imagination that happens then and there.
